Summary: 5 Stars

FULL OF SPOILERS

When I finished watching Season 2, I was so anxious to know what was going to happen next, I started reading reviews for Season 3, and accidentally found out Sarah was killed off. Upon further research, I discovered the decision to kill off the character was due to contract negotiations between the network executives and the actress playing Sarah. I was so disappointed and angry, I decided to stop watching Prison Break. I also didn't like the direction the show was taking, placing the 3rd season in a place that looked more like Dante's Hell, than a prison; and introducing characters that were so evil, there was no chance of identifying with them.

But every time I went to the video store, Michael's stare on the cover of the DVD kept telling me to watch again. Time and time again, I resisted, until yesterday.

I have watched this season in 2 days, almost straight through. Prison Break, continues to be an outstanding television series. It's true this season had some flaws, but overall, I was on the edge of my seat, and I just couldn't stop watching.

I think the writers' strike did not hurt the series. The 13 shows were enough to tell the story and have it develop to a satisfying conclusion. Another reviewer complained that in this season Michael did not have a real plan as in Season 1, but was acting on the spur of the moment. I find that it was precisely this, that gave the show its intensity and interest. We already knew that Michael was intelligent, but in this show he shows his genius.

There were three problems in the plot, which I think should not have happened considering this show's high-quality writing:

1. It is not believable that the general interrogating Michael and Whistler would go with only one soldier and Gretchen to find LJ. That general would have taken a whole platoon with him.

2. When T-Bag finds the Bird Manual, it's not credible that the guards kicking him do not see him putting the guide in his pocket.

3. SONA no longer has guards inside the prison because the prisoners are so violent and out of control that the guards have left them to themselves. Yet every time there is a crisis, the guards come inside, and seem to get the prison population under control right away. This for me was the weakest element of the entire plot.

Besides these flaws, Prison Break still delivers the high suspense and intensity that were present in the first 2 seasons. Wentworth Miller continues to hypnotize us with his performance as Michael. We continue to root for him, to suffer with him, and to want Sarah with him. It was the fans' outrage that made the network executives bring back Sarah.

Gotta go, Disc 1 of Season 4 is already in my DVD player.

DVD Review: great
Summary: 4 Stars

Great show however, I found Prison Break at COSCO for half of what I paid for it with Amazon.

DVD Review: One of the best ever.....
Summary: 5 Stars

My only complaint is this was during the strike shortened television season so the ending may have been abrupt as there wasn't a full run of episodes. It left me wondering what might have been or what could have happened if it were not for the strike but nevertheless is still rates tops in my book. Don't pass this up!

Description of Prison Break: Season Three

Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 08/12/2008 Run time: 609 minutes Rating: Nr
After focusing on the breakout (season one) and the manhunt (season two), season three of Prison Break turns the concept on its head by throwing everyone involved with the show so far--fugitives, lawmen, villains--into the same prison. When we left off in season two's finale, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) had been exonerated of the murder for which he was framed since the beginning of the series, but Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) landed himself behind bars during the escape in Panama. It's no coincidence that he's placed in SONA, a remote place for the lowliest of criminals, along with his pursuers Agent Mahone (William Fichtner) and Bellick (Wade Willams), and fellow former inmate Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Kneppner), who naturally cozies up to the crime lord who rules the prison in an effort to move up in the ranks.

The main premise of Prison Break this time around is Michael needing to break someone else out of prison for The Company, the crime network responsible for all nefarious doings on the show. The Company's rep is a homicidal, sneering assassin named Susan (sometimes Gretchen) (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe), who's holding hostage both Lincoln's son LJ and Michael's love Sara until Michael carries out his mission. The typically false starts, double-crossings, and man-that-was-close moments you'd expect to come from a series like this are all there, but this time around episodes feel scattershot, a far cry from the white-knuckle tension builder that was season one. Fichtner, who joined in the second season, is a standout as a pill-popping agent-turned-inmate in withdrawal who must now collaborate with the man he chased across the country. The new characters introduced don't have much purpose; the many plot twists (he's a good guy... no, a bad guy... no, wait, a good guy) leave you a little less motivated each time to keep tuning in, and the final straw is one main character's death early in the season (reportedly because of a contract dispute between the producers and the actor). Originally planned as a jolt to the series, it instead angered many fans who had been long awaiting a just payoff. This would later be rectified before the fourth season, but there's no telling how many Prison Break fans may have skipped town before then. --Ellen A. Kim
