DVD Reviews of Predator (Widescreen Collector's Edition)DVD Review: Awesome Movie - Terrible BluRay Summary: 1 StarsBeing a die hard Predator (not Predator II of course) fan, I considered myself lucky to find the Blu Ray version on sale at target for $15.00, and I bought it to replace my SD version. It is OMG terrible, could even be worse quality than the SD disc. If you're considering upgrading to Blu Ray - DON'T!!!
DVD Review: Pure Escapism Summary: 4 StarsYeah, I know this is a low-grade simple story, one of those action flicks that oozes with too much testosterone.....but so what.? Every once in a while, it's a nice release to sit back and get lost in a scary movie set in the jungle. I don't know anyone who ever dozed asleep watching this, so it's not all bad. It's actually a fun movie.
Despite the moronic and unlikeable characters who uttered some stupid dialog, the movie gets you very involved and is one of the better pure-action movies I've ever seen. The jungle scenery is outstanding to view on DVD. This is a pretty movie for such low-grade material, story-wise. I watched it a second time just for the visuals.
Speaking of visuals, it's disappointing that the Blu-Ray transfer is so poor...at least according to most of the reviewers here, whom I believe. I would have gladly upgraded but now I'm a little leery of doing that.
DVD Review: Good action film, OK DVD package Summary: 4 StarsI have always liked this film.
FAVORITE BIT. JESSE VENTURA & THAT GUN HIS CHARACTER USED!! Just loved that.
Good action film.
Script however. TO THIS DAY I STILL CAN NOT FIGURE OUT IF I HEARD CORRECTLY 1 LINE ARNOLD'S CHARACTER DUTCH SAYS. MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. When, he, Carl Weathers & his men attack the camp the hostages are in. He yells at one of his men & MAKES NO SENSE.
BEFORE we learn Carl's character sent them there for a different reason FOR NO REASON all of Arnold's men treated him like garbage, with an attitude. What did the character do BEFORE we learn about the REAL MISSION to deserve that?
Kind of a tacky DVD package. Thin card board. Mine is hard to get closed up.
Ok, regular, normal extras.
A passable, OK DVD package.
DVD Review: Predator on Blu-Ray Summary: 4 StarsI'm so impressed with the quality of the presentation of this film (which I've seen 1000 times on other formats) that I didn't even notice the lack of extras until someone mentioned it. I watched it on my PS3 via HDMI, hooked to a 47 Phillips LCD HDTV 120hz. The picture quality was excellent. Those people who claim it looked like the regular DVD need a new HDTV, or an eye exam. In my opinion the picture quality was better than T2, Die Hard 2, and Total Recall (I'm referring only to the blu-ray format of these movies).
DVD Review: Good Movie bad sound Summary: 3 StarsI have always loved this movie; however the audio on this DVD is less than satisfactory. The sound is not in Dolby Digital which reduces greatly the enjoyement factor. AMAZON.COM you need to sell better quality DVD'S.
Description of Predator (Widescreen Collector's Edition)The ultimate hunter meets the ultimate adversary?in the ultimate Collector?s Edition DVD! Arnold Schwarzenegger wages an all-out war against an unseen enemy, a force more powerful and deadly than any on Earth?because the Predator is not of this Earth. Now, you can explore the depths of the Predator jungle with this all-new 2-disc set packed with over 5 hours of out-of-this-world extras, including an in-depth documentary, director?s commentary, never-before-seen bonus footage, revealing featurettes and more! Rambo meets Alien in this terrific science-fiction thriller from 1987, directed by John McTiernan just a year before Die Hard made him Hollywood's most sought-after director of action-packed blockbusters. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite squad of U.S. Army commandos to a remote region of South American jungle, where they've been assigned to search for South American officials who've been kidnapped by terrorists. Instead they find a bunch of skinned corpses hanging from the trees and realize that they're now facing a mysterious and much deadlier threat. As the squad is picked off one by one, Arnold finds himself pitted against a hideous alien creature that's heavily armed and wearing a spacesuit enabling the creature to render itself invisible. The title says it all in describing the relentless, escalating action that follows, maintained by McTiernan with an abundance of visual flair. The film's special effects are still impressive, and stunning locations in the Mexican jungles create a combined atmosphere of verdant beauty and imminent danger. The plot doesn't hold up to much scrutiny, but the movie's so exciting and tightly paced that its weaknesses seem irrelevant. --Jeff Shannon
