DVD Review: Green Movement
Summary: 5 Stars

The BBC team has produced an astonishingly beautiful and breathtaking photographic documentary, entitled "Plant Earth", a five-part DVD video series. It explores the extraordinary world of nature and gives viewers a better understanding of Earth's biodiversity. At the same time, the video poses some thought-provoking questions about why we are losing habitats, species and natural resources at such an alarming rate. The film does an interesting job of explaining how the world's landscape is changing, due to pollution, climate change and other factors. The core problems with the environment lie with poverty in developing countries and overconsumption in developed countries. We need to balance the collective efforts of sustaining economic growth and rethink the way we use, produce and operate global resources. Simply reducing carbon emissions is not enough; it will take more than that to avoid environmental apocalypse. Modern technologies are limited in their ability to help the environment. Moreover, mankind could very well vanish from the earth if we can not save it from overexploitation. A collective effort must include governments, media, scientists, environmentalists, activists, religious leaders and society at large.

Some of the highlighted questions from the video are below:

*Are there any limits to how many electronic appliances and devices we need in a single household? Why do TV's, computers and automobiles end up in the landfills of developing countries, where they can cause damage to other people?

*Can we buy fresh, locally-grown vegetables from farmers markets and grow our own vegetables, instead of factory-farm produced items?

*Can be go back to using natural fabrics rather than unbreathable chemical fabrics, which require intense chemicals and more resources to make?

*Do we need homes that are carpeted wall-to-wall and use air-conditioning and heating all year round, or can we build eco-friendly houses, which are much healthier for our children and ourselves?

*Can we slow down our consumption of material goods, which irreversibly damage our natural resources while providing temporary or fleeting satisfaction?

This series provides a glimpse of the long-term solutions we could implement to improve our planet. We need to agree on some basic concepts and models to tackle the problems of endangered species, defrosting of the polar ice caps, pollution and climate change. A must see DVD!

DVD Review: Planet Earth & the Blue Planet
Summary: 5 Stars

The cinematography is amazing and the videos are captivating. I can watch this series over and over again without a problem. I love it.

DVD Review: Beautiful and interesting
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoy the Planet Earth series for both its beautiful photography and its many interesting, some never before seen, subjects. I have not watched the Blue Planet dvds yet, but I am looking forward to them since they are from the same team who made Planet Earth.

Description of Planet Earth & The Blue Planet Seas of Life (Special Collector's Edition)

BBC natural history producer Alastair Fothergill spent the last ten years producing two of the most stunningly beautiful series ever created, The Blue Planet: Seas of Life and Planet Earth. For the first time, these must-own programs will be offered together in special collector's gift set. Winner of two Emmy(R) Awards (Outstanding Cinematography - Non-Fiction and Outstanding Music Composition for George Fenton's score), The Blue Planet: Seas of Life is the definitive exploration of the marine world, chronicling the mysteries of the deep, coastline populations, sea mammals, tidal and climatic influences, and the complete biological system that relies on and revolves around the world's oceans. Planet Earth does for the entire world what The Blue Planet: Seas of Life did for the oceans. Using high definition photography and revolutionary ultra-high speed cameras, this is the ultimate portrait of our planet. This truly breathtaking television experience captures rare action, impossible locations and intimate moments with our planet's best-loved, wildest and most elusive creatures.
