DVD Review: Better Options Available
Summary: 3 Stars
Positives:
1. Offensive open stance forehand.
2. Offensive neutral stance forehand.
3. General footwork techniques (not specific to forehand).
4. Court positioning/basic court geometry (not specific to forehand).
Negatives:
1. I think the video could be better at explaining the reasons one would want to use an open stance forehand, e.g. faster recovery time, easier to hit defensive back court shots, easier to hit passing shots, etc.
2. It could have also put greater emphasis on the technical details of the open stance forehand, e.g. how and when to jump, how and when to use hip rotation, differences between defensive technique versus offensive technique, differences among various follow throughs, etc.
3. The numerous annoying clown acts make the video hard for me to re-watch multiple times.
Bollettieri also covers footwork and court positioning in his much better Nick Bollettieri's Stroke Instruction Series: Bollistic Backhand DVD video. For a more focused video on the open stance forehand, I like USPTA The Modern Forehand.
The target audience for Killer Forehand is probably aggressive intermediate level players. I think beginners and casual players might be happier with Consistent Tennis Wins ( The Original ) or John Officer: 50 Quick Tennis Tips (DVD).
Overall the video has a lot of good content, but for me the material was easier to learn from the combination of Bollettieri's Bollistic Backhand and USPTA's Modern Forehand, which effectively made Killer Forehand an unnecessary purchase.
