DVD Review: Could be better
Summary: 2 Stars
This DVD was underimpressive. It recounted the regular seasons of teams that didn't make the playoffs but not for the 49ers. The coverage for the 1981 season and playoffs was especially lackluster. The only real decent part of the DVD was the coverage of the actual superbowls. That part was in depth. Also, the cover blurb is a bit misleading in that I thought there was going to be actual game footage with announcers and everything. All it had was highlights and a narrator. If you love football strategy, good passing game then watching any highlights of the 80's and early 90's San Francisco 49ers is great.
I wish some one would make Steve Sabol of NFL Films to knock it off with the close up shots. That's all his highlights ever are. I would like to be able to see the formations and the whole play. Especially from a historical offense the 49ers had with Joe Montana and Steve Young.

I bought this hoping that I would get to see highlights of each of the five years the 49ers won the super bowl instead they showed highlights of other teams seasons and not the 49ers like I wanted. It was just a general over view of each season and even had segaments talking about other teams and not the 49ers. I did think that the highlights of the super bowls were very good and even the interviews of some of the players were very good.DVD Review: Disappointing

I was excited to see that NFL films had finally released some collected footage of the 49ers' dynasty era. The DVD leaves much to be desired, however, as it glosses over each SF super bowl season. This set spends precious little time developing the great niner teams, and chronicles in shamefully sparse detail the context of these players, seasons, and super bowls.
Example: Missing here from the second SB against Cincinnati was the early Ronnie Lott hit on Ickey Woods, which was a defining moment in the game (and an all-time NFL films highlight). Ronnie later stated, in reference to that play, that "all hits are personal." This oversight (as effective as any other), illustrates the lack of detail and understanding that went into this effort.
Die hard fans will buy this one no matter what. The previous reviews (all negative) didn't deter me, but you should know that this set is a poor collection of reels that doesn't speak to the greatness of those times.
