The show is about Naval Criminal Investigations. The writers continually come up with new scenarios and it never gets old. The characters have well-defined personalities and the actors do a great job with these characters.
If you are not familiar with the show, check out the reruns on USA or new episodes on CBS and if you fall in love with the show - like I did - then definitely buy the DVDs. You can watch any time you want without the annoying commercials.
Season 3 DVDs are the only ones with a "Play All" option and closed captioning. It is unfortunate that seasons 1, 2, 4, and 5 don't have these. Hopefully, they will include them for season 6.
Do the math before you buy. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy the seasons individually, sometimes as a group.
DVD Review: Growing Up

This season of NCIS is by far, the best. Kate is dead, Gibbs is angry, Tony's confused about whether or not he loves her, McGee's still the Probie, so he doesn't know how to react, Abby lost her best friend, and Ducky has to preform the autopsy on poor old Kate. Character's reactions, emotions, and jobs all mix with their lives to create a perfectly wonderful attention-grabbing season.
SPOILER:
OH!!! And did I happen to mention that Ari's half-sister, Ziva David, shows up? Ya. She's a liason officer. And NCIS Director, Tom, retires. A friend from Gibbs' past shows up to take his place. He always did have a thing for red-heads.
Plus, at the end of the season, Gibbs goes on Hiatus. That's a play on the episode's name...
The Special Features take you even deeper into the world of NCIS. The Women, the Real NCIS: Declassified, Season of Change, Head Slaps, and The Round Table.
You have to watch this show.
DVD Review: A little shaky, but well worth watching more than once

If you're a fan of NCIS, then there's no reason not to get this season. It's a transition year but, while that's evident in a few episodes, many moments in season three are priceless and most of the episodes evidence the high quality you no doubt expect from the show.
If you're a newcomer to NCIS, season three is entirely worth watching on its own, but you'll appreciate it more if you start with season one.
DVD Review: N.C.I.S.

N.C.I.S. is my favorite TV series. I did not start watching it until mid-way of season one. I bought season one to see these first episodes and have bought 2 other seasons since. I enjoy them over and over again. There are no commercials and,thus, no distractions. The cast is terrific and have such a geniune affection for each other that I never tire of watching. My husband and I watch them together. I highly recommend these to anyone and will continue to buy them until I have them all.

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it's a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant, whose skills as an investigator are unmatched, formerly led this troupe of colorful personalities. Gibbs, a man of few words, only needs a look to explain it all. The team includes NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), an ex-homicide detective who may come off as the world's oldest frat boy, but whose instincts in the field are unparalleled; forensic specialist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), a talented scientist whose dark wit matches her Goth style and eclectic tastes, NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), an MIT graduate whose brilliance with computers far overshadows his insecurities in the field and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), a former Moussad agent who shares a bond with Gibbs over the death of his arch nemesis, Ari, the terrorist who killed former NCIS Special Agent Kate Todd. The show's second season ended with the brutal and shocking death of Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander). The first two episodes of this season deal with the aftermath of bringing her killer to justice and examining the emotional impact of her loss on the remaining members of the NCIS team, which is led by Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). The six-disc set includes all 24 episodes, which aired on CBS during 2005-2006. Returning are happy-go-lucky ladies' man Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly, Dark Angel), forensics expert and resident Goth chick Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum, The Man from U.N.C.L.E), and agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray). Former Mossad intelligence officer Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) joins the close-knit cast, as does Jennifer Shepard (Lauren Holly, Dumb & Dumber) as the new NCIS director. Working on a daily basis with Shepard initially makes Gibbs wary. Not only is she a former girlfriend, but she also was his underling at one time. Equal parts CSI and JAG, NCIS works primarily because of its quirky cast, which is able to take sometimes regurgitated ideas and rework them into something engagingly watchable. Throughout this season, we will see agents endangered and framed, and one will accidentally kill an undercover detective who may not have been armed. But the explosive two-part season finale will finally shed light on Gibbs' painful history and help explain why he is who is he today. --Jae-Ha Kim
