DVD Review: This is one of the golden films that stands out in an era of media.

As I am not such a fan of romantic movies, I had no idea what to expect in this movie. Then, there came a day to watch it and so I did. I was struck. Not only was it the most romantic thing I ever saw, it was one of the funniest, sweet movie. Nowadays I still don't like romance too much but My Sassy Girl was different for me. It remains one of my most favorite today.
And for the English remake, I really did not like it as it felt like almost any other common romance films. I felt the directer (an amateur by the way) rushed the storyline and he made the environment so gloomy and the atmosphere lonely. However, its straight release to DVDs also explain the failure of the film project.

Some parts of this movie are a bit outlandish. But the basic love story is a good one, there's an interesting twist at the end, and the actress playing the title roll is fairly cute (although we don't see much of her cute figure). However, I would recommend to Americans that they get the 2008 American version with Elishu Cuthbert. I've seen both and you'll like the American version better.DVD Review: Awesome chick flick

One fine day Kyun-woo is taking the train to visit his aunt when he decides to be a good Samaritan and help out an unconscious drunken girl. Unfortunately, she turns out to be impossible to get rid of and leads poor Kyun-woo into all manner of dangerous and painful adventures. We have often seen this "abusive, dangerous, but gorgeous girlfriend" storyline before in movies. Quirky, offbeat films are always fun for their very quirkiness, but this film is surprisingly conventional. If the moods of My Sassy Girl change as quickly as those of a fourteen year old, the script also seems to have been written by a teenager. One minute silly, the next overly dramatic, the film never really goes anywhere. While some people might find great hilarity in repeated verbal and physical abuse, it just doesn't strike me as funny. For the viewer who is surrounded by unpleasant, slightly crazy people in life, this film might just depress and annoy them. The uneven pacing and plot are not helped by the poor performance of Tae-hyun Cha as Kyun-woo who appears to have a total of three facial expressions and whose whining delivery is almost unbearable. There are some genuinely funny moments in the movie such as the wacky screenplays that the "Sassy Girl" persists in writing, but they sadly can not redeem this film which in the end comes off like a cross between a quirky French film and a bad romantic dramedy.
Description of My Sassy Girl (2001)
Based on a series of TRUE stories posted by Kim Ho Sik on the Internet describing his relationship with his girlfriend. These stories were later transformed into a best-selling book and a movie follows the book closely. It describes the meeting of Kyun-woo (Cha) and an unnamed girl. Kyun-woo is shamed into assisting the girl because the other passengers mistakenly think she is his girlfriend. Once he helps her, Kyun-woo develops a deep sense of responsibility for her which enables him to tolerate (somehow) the girls abuses.Asian Cinema DVDs
