DVD Reviews of Mughal-E-Azam (2 Disc Set)DVD Review: A classic Gem Summary: 5 StarsA classic gem of Indian cinema, or any cinema for that matter.
To be called great, a film must have first of all a fitting story. It must apply to all times - time immemorial, current and future eras. And indeed, Mughal-e-Azam fits this difficult requirement. Eternal epic themes and conflicts abound: the power of love; most significantly, the all-encompassing blinding power of love&loving- even against all odds; devotion to duty&responsibilities versus attending/acquiescing to the needs& desires of one's loved ones; the struggle of sons against fathers; the love of mothers for their offspring; the loyalty of a wife towards a husband versus the loyalty of a mother towards her child/children; jealousy and its twin, hatred; loyalty to friends, even to the death; a philosopher, truth-sayer, and upholder of ethics (in this case, the sculptor).
The acting is very believable. The settings and sets are wonderful. Much of the script is poetic and lovely, especially the expressions of love.
Don't miss it!
and the transfer and colorization is quite good also.
DVD Review: Lost in Digital Translation Summary: 1 StarsColoring the B&W original has been contested with all film classics from the past. I accepted this colored format change when I purchased the film. What I didn't bargain on was the atrocious damage inflicted on the lovely B&W analogue images. The digital rendering on the copies that I received made viewing impossible. Severely distorted to the point of image disintegration is not an overstatement. Buyer beware. Don't waste your money on this failed conversion.
DVD Review: A Classic Summary: 5 StarsIt's a classic of classics. The stunning backdrops mixed with poetry of dialogue makes this movie a gem of Indian cinema screen. I would recommend it to all nationalities.
DVD Review: Amazing Summary: 5 StarsThis is definately one of the best classic movies in the world. Definately worth a watch. Madhubala is stunning, Dilip Kumar gave a great performance. This is one of the biggest movies in indian cinema- a movie that is used a measure for newer epic indian movies (such as Devdas).
Description of Mughal-E-Azam (2 Disc Set)Starring: Ajit,Dilip Kumar,Durga Khote,Madhubala,Prithvi Raj Kapoor Synopsis: Badshah Akbar was the supreme ruler of Hindustan and ruled this country fairly and justly. He wanted the Hindus and Muslims to live as a big family; encourages all religious groups to live in harmony together; and even undertakes a barefoot journey to the temple of Ambe Maa and installs a gold umbrella over Ambe Maa. He married a Hindu Rajput Yodhabai, and together they sire a son who they name Saleem. Born in a very tolerant and acceptable atmosphere, Saleem also witnesses war and perhaps this does have an affect on his mind. He then falls in love with a lowly courtesan, Anarkali. When his parents want him to get married to a woman of their choice, he refuses and wants to marry Anarkali. This angers the tolerant Akbar, who could never visualize his son marrying a mere dancing girl. He has Anarkali imprisoned, but Saleem arranges her escape and incites an open revolt against Akbar. Enraged, Akbar declares Saleem a traitor and sends his armies to crush him. Saleem is defeated and brought in chains to be sentenced by his father, but Anarkali managed to elude his armies. Akbar wants to trade Saleem's life with that of Anarkali, but Saleem will not let anyone know where Anarkali is, and is therefore sentenced to die. Watch the climax, to the tunes of "Zindabad...Zindabad...." of this blockbuster as Saleem is tied to a tower and a huge cannon is aimed at him to blow him to bits in front of everyone present. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.
