DVD Review: Another Great Instructional CD by Mike
Summary: 5 Stars
I have all of Dream Theater's and Mike Portnoy's Videos and although I prefer Liquid Drum Theater (probably because I like the selection of songs), this DVD is exceptional. Mike is wonderful at explaining his ideas and concepts. I play in a Rush/Dream Theater Tribute band, so finding gems that allow me to play like Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy are truly important to me. This DVD (or should I say three) is no different. Ironically, the second DVD is my favourite, which shows Mike in Tribute bands. However, this does not negate the fact that the remaining material is excellent. There are a few sections of disk number one that I use with my students in my music school. The odd meters and independent exercises are really great. Mike is also very humble in that he admits that some of the patterns are very tricky and breaks them down for the mere mortals out there.
Well done to Mike on yet another great drum resource. Even if you are not a drummer but a Dream Theater fan, this is a great addition to your collection!
