Every music DVD should have a track listing as do CDs. I may like a particular artist, but want to maximize my purchase by trying to buy one that has the most songs that I like. There is on Meat Loaf DVD from Melbourne in 2004 and 2007. Since most of the songs are probably the same (but how can one tell since Amazon doesn't list the tracks), I would probably only buy one of the two. It would be nice to see the song list to make that choice.DVD Review: A Perfect Match

Meat Loaf's music is perfect for an orchestra, so when I saw this DVD advertised awhile back, I bought it right away. I'm glad I did. The set list is solid. The show begins with all the band members (including Meat) and the percussionists for the orchestra doing a drum solo that follows into "Life is a Lemon." To be honest though, Meat's vocals for that song were a bit shakey. Other than that, he sang really well (keep in mind that this DVD was filmed and released a few years before he started having major vocal problems). One gem on this DVD performance is when he performs "For Cryin' Out Loud" for the first time since March of 1978 (said the man himself). It was a moving number. The orchestra complemented it perfectly. In general, the band is phenominal (as always) and Patti and C.C. are fantastic back-up singers. It was a great show over all and well worth the money. Also, one of the bonus features is commentary by Meat himself. He provides some really funny stories and some good information about the songs. It was a nice insight into how he views his work. I was really surprised how Meatloaf has cleaned up his act and is really an entertainer. I enjoyed it very much and I can remember when "Paradise by the dashboard lights" was for real. Now if it would only come out in Blu-Ray I would also buy that version.

DVD Review: DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!

If you are a true Meat Loaf fan, You will hate this DVD! Every song was butchered, I watched it once, and never will again. I bought this DVD because I am looking for live performances of my favorite artists, and the reviews here on amazon raved about how good it was and how Meat Loafs vocals were at peak performance and the female singer did a great job.
Not only was Meat Loaf singing monotone, but his stage presence was disturbing, He acted like he was mad at the audience throughout the concert. He tried to get them to pumped up, and got mad when they didn't. Who could, watching and listening to that poor excuse of a concert, I would have walked out!
The concert theme was a male versions of a Britney Spears concert, A lot of outlandish glitz, but no substance. Every song was ruined, The female singers voice was OK but she didn't have any heart. Everything was all jazzed up, obviously trying to modernize the songs that could never be improved upon. I've heard garage bands that can blow away this sad performance.
If you want to experience these songs the way they are suppose to be, buy Meat Loaf "Hits Out Of Hell" DVD, It's Great! Granted the sound quality isn't the best in the world, but it's not bad either, and the total experience makes it well worth the slighted sound. (Nothing an EQ or a good set of tone controls can't cure)
DVD Review: Great idea....something's lost with the Orch

After 30 years, we're still in love with the Original Bat album and for damn good reason, it's simply one of the greatest. Classic after classic this is simply Steinman's masterpiece.
However, when the Melbourne Symphony teamed with Meat Loaf something was lost.
The orchestrations are sparse at best. Soaring treble-high strings is about all you can hear. With music containing the power of Steinman's instrumentation and composition and Meat's incredible voice I just wanted more power.
Similar to Meat's double live album, "Live Around the World" the band and Meat sound great, full of energy and obviously they know these songs like the back of their hand, however the orchestra just does not sit well with most of the songs. With something like "heaven can wait" or "Bat out of Hell" I expected huge ripping brass, intense wind and string combinations, rolling timpani, and intricate orchestrations that supported Steinman's original band score. They simply are not here.
The Melbourne as you may know, did a similar show with Kiss and I really felt the same way about that record. The Melbourne Symphony is great but they lack the power and drive of an ensemble such as the San Francisco Symphony...now them and Metallica....that's classical rock/metal!
