DVD Reviews of Matthew: Visual BibleDVD Review: Another view's Impact Summary: 3 StarsMy wife and I both watched this new version of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew. We've watched many professional productions of Biblical "stories" and they cannot be seriously commented on without deep consideration. A "simple review" in my opinion, is based on a person's visual and emotional perceptions of the presentation, kind of how we rate everyday movies and TV shows. We watch it once, with a possibility of watching it again IF, we "liked it". If we don't like it, my wife and/or I will often shut it off and send it back to the rental service unwatched. If we DO like, a lot, we will rent it again and again or, buy 1 or more copies for ourselves and others. When it comes to SERIOUS productions that AFFECT OUR LIVES like Biblical presentations there is a great deal more involved than if we simply LIKE IT or not.
Do the actors fit the part as we expect, and/or the Bible clearly portrays them?
Is there a lot of un-Biblical filler where the Bible has been silent, in either WORDS or ACTIVITIES?
Do we detect an overshadowing influence or tendency to modify the clear teachings of Biblical scripture?
To my mind, anything that we take as seriously as Biblical FACT in life MUST pass rigorous tests as compared with Biblical content before any judgement involving "sharing the presentation" is concerned.
Concerning This version of THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW, I would have to say that my wife and I both had immediate and similar responses to both the actor portraying Jesus AND those portraying His disciples. This version is certainly a DEPARTURE from the NORM. I recommend a serious viewing of the presentation as I might JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR or GODSPELL. There is much that can be learned by a well read Bible student from viewing a presentation of Jesus which is DIFFERENT THAN THE TRADITIONAL PORTRAYAL. The downside is that this portrayal is different enough that it could actually end up being a BE TRAYAL to viewers who are not "already grounded by KNOWING the voice of the CHIEF SHEPHERD.
So, I would NOT recomment it to unbelievers or people seeking the ONE WHO HOLDS THE KEYS OF LIFE AN DEATH, Jesus Christ.

DVD Review: Very good Summary: 4 StarsThis is the first Visual Bible presentation we've seen and we are quite impressed with the way Matthew presents Jesus as a happy, friendly person. It also helps to see the words of the Bible acted out. It helps to plant it firmly in one's memory.
The only downside is that there is a defect in the first disk and I'm going to contact Amazon to find out how to get it replaced.
In any case, I would highly recommend this presentation to everyone.
DVD Review: missing disc one Summary: 1 Starswhen the DVD arrived I opened it in great anticipation of watching it right away. unfortunately I cannot.. as it is a two disc DVD set and disc one is MISSING. only disc two arrived???? the package was sealed, so now I cannot return this purchase. I am very dissapointed.
DVD Review: The Gospel Movie Ever! Summary: 5 StarsAs given in my previous review ("The Perfect Stranger"), This Jesus is the best Christian Epic Ever!!!
It does something revolutionary/Original... It takes one Gospel and completely dramatizes it from the first to the last verse. No other Film Group except Visual Bible has done this. This style/format presents/proves the Historical Jesus of Bethlehem/Nazareth as History-Biography -- As Fact, not Fiction!
Because most of the movies are not Bible-based or semi-Bible based, a hint of fantasy/fiction/mystic elements is imputed onto the "Jesus character" in which the audience walks out of the Theatre being Entertained, not Educated/Edified/Exhorted. They are cheated of the Real
Jesus -- Jesus of Nazareth/Bethlehem.
The 4-hour epic is a must for all who claim Jesus as their God, Lord, and Savior. My Christian School and Sunday School classes use it constantly when doing any exegetical/expository preaching (verse-by-verse Bible Study).
May the Godhead bless you when you purchase/rent/show to others this film

DVD Review: Visual Bible: The Book of Matthew Summary: 5 StarsThese are good quality tapes. The movie was great and the man who played Jesus was fantastic. I liked the fact that Jesus smiled and laughed and joked around. This is the way I always pictured Jesus being. Another thing I liked about the tapes is that you can see the verses from the NIV shown at the bottom right and if you would like, you can follow along with your Bible. The words in the movie are from the Bible. I would tell everyone to get it, you will not regret it. The price is extremely low compared to other places that I have found. Great movie!!!
