This is a fascinating introduction to Marian doctrines based on the interpretation of Old Testament texts as types fulfilled in the New. It is the interpretative "lenses" used by the early church which gave the church Mary as the daughter of Zion, the ark of the covenant, and the second Eve. It is an extension of the teachings of the Apostles and New Testament writers who made extensive use of typology in revealing the gospel hidden in the Old. And it was the earliest teachers of the church who began to see that not only is Jesus foreshadowed in the Old but also his mother, our mother, Mary. Steve Ray, a convert to the Roman Catholic faith, shares with enthusiasm how these doctrines developed and flowered to the understanding the church holds now. It is a great place to begin a journey toward Marian devotion and understanding her role in salvation history. Another well-produced and insightful work in this "Footsteps" series.
