DVD Reviews of Mama's Family - The Complete First SeasonDVD Review: Episodes not shown uncut Summary: 4 StarsI understand that people were upset with the fact that the episodes were the syndicated episodes instead of the original uncut ones. I understand why people wanted to boycott the dvd but at the same time I'm really disappointed because I believe because the sale of the dvd wasn't as profitable as they wanted that this is the only season that will ever be released. I'm sorry to all the people that are totally pro boycott season 1 but I would buy season 2 right now if it was released even if it was cut. The dvd I bought for season 1 is better quality than my vhs tapes and it doesn't have any commercials.
DVD Review: Has Scenes/Lines not On Found on TV Version Summary: 5 StarsWell, I'm happy to say, I watched scenes in this DVD that I haven't found when I watched the same episodes on TV, so that was a nice surprise. Although, I'd like to see the un-cut versions everyone keep talking about in their reviews.
Mama's Family is sooo funny! I just got Mama for President: Good Lord, Why Not? because I like it so much. And that's sooo funny too! More MAMA, pleaseeee! Let's have a new sitcom, with Betty White and Rhue McLanahan and of course, Vicki Lawrence...
DVD Review: This is what happens when people constantly complain! Summary: 5 StarsAfter years of waiting for this show to make it to dvd, it finally comes out and what do people do?, they complain because certain words in the original airing are cut, is it so important that the scene where Mama says "what" isn't included?
thanks to all the whiney cry babies we will more than likely never see future seasons on dvd,
thanks alot!
DVD Review: Mama's Temper. Summary: 5 StarsMama's Family says the complete first season but it isn't. The episodes are edited, that's not complete guys! Who wants to waste money on edited episodes, not me! I give the product one star but five stars to this hilarious and groundbreaking show. Vicki Lawrence is a comic genius, thank goodness Carol Burnett discovered this wonderful and unique creature. I highly doubt season two will ever be released if that season is edited too. Great show, poorly distributed.
DVD Review: Thanks for the heads up; I won't have to waste money on edited re-runs! Summary: 1 StarsThanks to the REAL fans here that saved me from wasting money on edited re-runs. I understand that some are glad to just get Mama's Family at all, but they need to understand they're only going to hurt us all in the end. If we stick to our guns and say, "NO SALE ON EDITED RE-RUNS", you'll discover how fast the Warner company can release the COMPLETE episodes. They've pulled this same act before with other television shows. Warner has done such a tremendous disservice to Mama's Family. No sale!
Description of Mama's Family - The Complete First SeasonStudio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/26/2006 Run time: 278 minutes Do you remember Mama? How could you forget her? As indelibly portrayed by Vicki Lawrence, formidable Mama put the "diss" in dysfunctional. Like Tyler Perry's Madea a decade later (but without the penchant for firearms or corporeal punishment), Mama dispenses no-nonsense motherly advice, discipline, and verbal kicks in the backside. She makes Dr. Phil look like Stuart Smalley. Thelma Harper does not suffer fools. She makes them--well, everybody--suffer. These include her sister, Fran (Rue McLanahan, The Golden Girls), a journalist who lives with her; her feckless son, Vint (Ken Berry, F-Troop), who moves in with his two teenagers after he is evicted from his house; and "bleached-blonde bimbo" Naomi (Dorothy Lyman, the original Opal on All My Children), who marries Vint by episode 4. Mama's extended family includes her two daughters, highfalutin Ellen (Betty White) and high-strung Eunice (Carol Burnett), who, to say the least, has issues. No one will mistake Mama's family for the Cleavers or the Bradys. They communicate mostly by screaming, and with put-downs often more cruel than comical. As a bystander tells Mama and Eunice in one episode, "Hold it, you're giving me a headache." One of the most memorable episodes is the one in which the Harpers must stick together when they appear on Family Feud (featuring a game Richard Dawson). Lawrence and Burnett, who appears in four episodes, share a palpable chemistry, honed all those years on The Carol Burnett Show, where Mama originated. As with those classic sketches, the best of these episodes, such as "Cellmates," in which Mama and Eunice are jailed after a disastrous birthday celebration, can make you laugh one minute and move you the next. Mama's Family is a great place to visit. Thank god we don't have to live there. --Donald Liebenson
