DVD Reviews of Madonna Im Going to Tell You a Secret

DVD Review: Can you say boring?
Summary: 3 Stars

If you speak English you probably can and you probably WILL use it to describe this film as it really dragged after the first half and the only redeeming qualities it has are the superb music numbers. The biggest problem is that it does not have an option to see the music numbers on their own and even then it does not have all the performances from the original concert.
The message of the film could have been put forth in 25 minutes...

DVD Review: Who's that hussy
Summary: 1 Stars

A better title for Madonna's latest video-nonsense might be, "Confessions of a Cabala Infomercial." Because, "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" is really just a very overpriced Cabala infomercial slickly hidden as a pop documentary.

Madonna had tremendous difficulty getting her mucumentary distributed (probably because no one is interested in watching a nearly 50 y/o grown-woman parading around like a teenager, preaching the Cabala.) ...So what does the queen of commercialism do? She convinces MTV to air it (commercial-free, of course) then releases this the following summer on DVD and separately with a CD of throw-away tracks so she can get the most bang for her buck.

In 1990 Madonna made a film that was a huge phenomenon (like herself at the time), called "Truth Or Dare" that is a modern-day classic. In 2004, she gave little effort, and even less talent to produce another video tour memoir called, "I'm Going To Tell You a Secret."

Madonna sounds, and appears very sterile in the entire picture. She enjoys telling people about "the new Madonna" and how their lives will be better if they conform to her beliefs. Like another huge legend once said, Joan Crawford, "you take care of your evil, and I'll take care of mine..." These are words to live by as far as I'm concerned.

The film doesn't give any insight into "who Madonna really is." Perhaps, Madonna's 2003 hit (from the commercial bomb "American Llife") "Nobody Knows Me" really does describe the 80's white-blonde airhead. Moreover, there once was a time when Madonna could at least play herself; now she can't even do that because she is so shallow and paper-thin.

Queen-Madonna is hungry for money (and attention), this I know. But no other revelations are learned from this dreadful amalgamation.

DVD Review: A smart, insightful film.
Summary: 5 Stars

Madonna's come a long way since 1991 "Truth or Dare", and this film is evident of that. Although I am a Madonna fan, I'm a pretty objective one and don't enjoy everything she's done (especially when it comes to film). "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret", though, is a very enjoyable film...and a much more insightful and introspective film then I had expected. It's worth viewing.

While 1991's documentary of her "Blond Ambition" tour found Madonna being scandalous, brat-like, and at the complete and total peak of her, then, uber-popularity..."I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" finds her in a very different place (which documents 2004's phenomenally successful "Re-Invention Tour"). Here we find Madonna 20 + years into her career, and in a much different place. She's a mother now, she's far more approachable, and she's on a journey (which she has made very public) to find "the truth" so to speak via her newfound spirituality (via the Kabbalah).

Is this documentary as fun, exciting, and controversial as her 1991 documentary? Absolutely not. BUT, it's just as interesting in another sense: Madonna now sees that she has a responsibility as a public figure, but more importantly, she has a responsibility to herself and her family. Her responsibility lies in many areas, but with this film, she focuses mainly on exuding positive energy to the world, being devoted to her family, and being devoted to her spirituality.

The film is inter-cut with beautiful color concert footage (the remainder of the documentary is mainly black and white). This film is worth watching...for fans, but especially for people who aren't fans because it makes you *think* about what you would like to do with your own life, what you're doing with it, and who and how you're sharing it with those around you.

Madonna may no longer be wearing cones on stage, but it doesn't make her any less interesting. This film proves that.

It's too bad this film didn't get a theatre release. The DVD also comes with a live soundtrack of some songs from the concert (the tracks on the CD are of full-length, while the DVD has slightly edited live performances).

DVD Review: a disappointing con
Summary: 1 Stars

first of all where is the American life video?,where are the full length versions of concert footage that wasn't in the broadcast?.madonna why do you hate the dvd format so much?.this was the first music dvd from you in 5 years!you can do better than this.the only reason for buying this dvd+cd is for the live cd which sounds great.give us the re-invention tour dvd if it was ever filmed in the first place!

DVD Review: Re-Invented
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved the documentary, it thought it was a beautyful expression of love and concern for our society as well as a candid insight into a person trying to better herself and move beyong the influences around her- trying to express her current self and be understood and understanding.
It is great to see the growth of an artist like madonna, who didnt just stay the same producing the same thing over and over again and then dissapering behind an outdated image(Whitney)or Falling From Grace (Britney/Michale)
For the people who cant get past her earlyer incarnations stop bitching and trying to hold her back- watch Truth or Dare(In Bed With Madonna)and let her move on.
my only point of confusion was the "Directors Cut" of American Life that was supposed to be in the special features with the deleted scenes- was this wrong or was it just not included in the Australian release???
Long Live the QUEEN!!!
