DVD Reviews of Mad Money

DVD Review: NAME THAT TUNE
Summary: 3 Stars

Hey, I love almost everything Queen Latifah does... but where was the comedy? This was more like every hard working person's fantasy! I thought the movie was ok... but Ted Dansen was so old and boring it was like time to go pee when his parts came on... all I want to know is what the heck is the title of the song Katie Holmes is dancing to while shoving money into the mail shoot - in the hallway as she waits for the elervator?
I like it... but can't find it nor the artist singing it.. has anyone noticed that music in film anymore is like a verison used not even included on the soundtrack IF there is one?? And the same songs from motown keep showing up on every film. ENOUGH ALREADY! Give us something new... there are hundreds of no body NEW groups - give them a shot at the soundtrack. If anyone knows the answer to the song Katie dances to please post it?? Thanx all!

DVD Review: For Those With Eyes to See and Ears to Hear
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this movie so much I had to own it. I can't get enough of it.
Every time I watch it, I see something more. The characters are so lovable & sympathetic. I liked Dianne Keaton before, but now I LOVE her! Here, she's become a kind of female Robin Hood. She addresses the human dilema of temptation. When you're desperate, & you see a sure thing opportunity staring you in the face, what would you do?
There are many things to be praised here in addition to a great story, great acting, great characters, great music, classic funny lines, & a wonderfully fun tone. But most of all, I like the quality of love amongst the characters. This isn't crime that's about meaness, hatefulness or backstabbing greed. This is about a partnership of average people trying to reclaim the American dream (just unfortunately through theft). But this pursuit of money is about love of family & friends. Many people have money problems, & no terribly deep loyalty to a rat race system, that traps them in quicksand. So, we observe, a little loot sharing goes a long way, to win them allies. There's even a nice subtle dig at the federal reserve system, such as, "Where ARE all the assets related to the paper?" Only one sentence, but for those in the know, what did the Fed (that isn't Federal) do with our silver & gold backed money? What loyalty do we really owe to them that have prospered at our expense? Again, not much explored, but implied.
This film is more about how good people are sometimes driven to survive in our musical chairs system, that's designed to always ex some unfortunate out of their seat. And of course, if this system can't keep us down one way, it calls out the big guns, the IRS.
But, love conquers all this time. It's something the system does not expect. Because the so called criminals give of themselves so generously, they wind up making themselves invincible. And that's what elevates this movie into something special, something beyond just comical & fun.
Again, it's not the theft that's the real roll model here, but the excitement of sudden great opportunity. The dream come true of windfalls of wealth, the joy of sharing with family & friends, & the luck that comes with great partners, & great love.

DVD Review: A nice TV movie would have been better
Summary: 4 Stars

"Mad Money" would have been a better TV movie. The cast was excellent, but not enough laughts. The ending shows us Crime really pays, like Wall Street is telling us in real life Today.

DVD Review: FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

A great cast delivers a fun, funny and suspenseful little movie about an upper middle-class couple that have fallen on their version of "hard times." Wifey (Diane Keaton) re-enters the workforce in order to help make ends meet....only to find that due to spending decades as a housewife, she is not qualified to do anything. Finally she lands a job at the Federal Reserve as a janitor...where she discovers, to her horror, that money that is deemed "old" is taken out of circulation and shredded. It doesn't take long for Keaton to devise a plan to basically steal money that is to be thrown away anyway....and the plan takes off without much of a hitch after enlisting the help of two of her coworkers (Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes). All goes well until the husband of Holmes starts trading large sums of money over the internet...suddenly, the threesome are the target of a federal investigation. Will the three do time in the federal pen for stealing the "trash?
Uproariously funny, most will enjoy this cute "chick flick" starring three veteran actresses that seem to have tons of chemistry...definitely worth seeing.

Description of Mad Money

Academy Award? winner Diane Keaton Academy Award? nominee Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes are all in for the crime of their lives! Deep inside the most secure bank in America three desperate women from very different worlds cook up the most unlikely heist of the century: Smuggle out millions of dollars in worn-out currency headed for a Federal Reserve shredder every day. Taking the cash is going to be easy but getting away with it will be insane! Ted Danson Christopher McDonald (HAPPY GILMORE) Roger Cross (24) and Stephen Root (OFFICE SPACE) co-star in this wild comedy caper from the creator of THELMA & LOUISE about chasing your dreams beating the system and paying the price for MAD MONEY!System Requirements:Running Time: 104 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:?COMEDY/COMEDY OF ERRORS Rating:?PG-13 UPC:?013138000095 Manufacturer No:?DV80000
Take three women in need of cash, a slew of money about to be shredded, and a plot that nicks a bit from 2005's Fun with Dick and Jane and you've got Mad Money. Diane Keaton stars as Bridget, a stay-at-home wife whose life as she knows it ends when her husband loses his cushy, high-paying job. Her college degree in literature turns out to be useless, so she accepts a janitorial position at the local bank. There she meets Nina (Queen Latifah) and Jackie (Katie Holmes), who could use some spare scratch as well. Suddenly, it dawns on Bridget that the bank has plenty of what they need: money! Because the gals are so cute and nice, it's clear they're not really going to rob the bank. What they will do, though, is take the old bills headed for the shredder and recycle it back into the economy by spending it. (Oh heck, they're basically stealing the money.) Played for laughs, the movie doesn't bother to discuss the economic ramifications of what would happen if too much money was recirculated, but that's neither here nor there. The trio of personable actors--particularly Keaton--does a good job of making the characters likable, even in some unbelievable situations. But Keaton deserves better than Mad Money, which isn't really funny enough to be a comedy and doesn't have enough romance to qualify as good chick flick. Still, Keaton, Latifah and Holmes share warm camaraderie. It'd be fun to see them reunited in a film that had a little more weight to it. Ironically, Mad Money was directed by directed by Callie Khouri, who wrote Thelma & Louise and Something to Talk About--movies that had all the key components (compelling storyline and characters worth cheering on) that Mad Money is lacking. --Jae-Ha Kim
