DVD Review: Beautiful Story, Fabulous Guest Stars... Get It In Season 3!

This review refers to " Little House On The Prairie - Journey In The Spring"....
"Journey In The Spring" is one of the most beautiful episodes of the Little House Series. It is a two parter, now avaialble here in feature length form, that originally aired around Thanksgiving of 1976.
The great Arthur Hill guest stars and will have you at the very least choked up, as he plays Pa's Pa, Lansford Ingalls. With the death of his beloved wife, Lansford has retreated to his own world. Charles must travel back to the Big Woods and convince him to return to Walnut Grove, where he has family that loves him. Lansford is a might stubborn, and refuses to leave his wife's resting place. We get a good look at the family history in the first half of the episode, mainly told in flashbacks to the time Charles was a very young boy.
Once back in Walnut grove, we find Laura growing very attached to her grandpa, and when a tragic accident leaves her beloved horse, "Bunny" in pain, she implores Grandpa to heal her horse and stop Charles from doing what must be done. It is truly a touching story, one that fans of Little House will love.
Matthew Laborteaux and Hersha Parady also guest star. Laborteaux, who of course, later in the series will be a regular as Albert, play the young Charles in the flashbacks. Parady, the future Alice Garvey, is seen as Charles' sister-in-law.
The story itself is worth 5 stars, however, the price you pay for just this one feature length episode is not(my reason for not going the full 5 stars). This 2 parter is included in Little House On The Prairie - The Complete Season 3. Season three is a 6 disc set, with 19 episodes airing Sept 76' through April 77' and has other very heartwarming and touching stories including "The Hunters" (Charles is injured on a hunting trip and Laura and a blind man must find him help),"Little Girl Lost"(Carrie falls down a mine shaft), and "To Live With Fear"(Mary must have surgery after an accident).
So if you really love this series, check out the prices of the sets. I think You'll find it to be a much better deal. And as always..don't forget to bring along the Kleenex!....Laurie
