DVD Review: Black: my favorite political color Summary: 5 Stars"Lewis Black: Red White and Screwed" is a live performance of Lewis Black in top form. Few people can reflect the American condition in a way that is both highly entertaining and very thought-provoking. Lewis is brilliant. He get's it. You should get it too (the DVD, that is).
DVD Review: Left me cold Summary: 2 StarsCompared to Bill Maher, Lewis Black's delivery before an audience seems nervous and forced and therefore not humorous. He seemed angry to me and TRIED to be funny, but wasn't for me. I didn't finish watching this DVD, but returned to Bill Maher instead.
DVD Review: Excellent comedy. Best therapy money can buy. Summary: 5 StarsLewis Black is absolutely right on the mark with adult comedy that is based on true facts. In these difficult economic times when people have lost their lifetime savings and investments often over a million dollars, it's very difficult to find anything to laugh about.
However, life goes on and with Lewis Black, you can sort of work your way through the hatred for the stock market collapse, the bank failures, the housing market collapse and all the bailouts, and start to find a dose of medicine to get you smiling again. It doesn't fix the economy, it doesn't bring crude oil back down to below $18.00 a barrel, which by the way, is the only thing that will stabilize world economy.
Lewis Black covers a vast array of subjects that all fit with today's failing economy and brings a bit of humor out of it all. Lewis Black is absolutely refreshing and a Lewis Black DVD is by far a lot less than the cost of a mental therapist or an extended stay at a mental hospital for any economic stress you might be going through right now.
In these difficult times when people have lost their retirement savings, their money in their 401K plan has been stolen by greedy CEO's, their dreams of a retirement home have gone out the window along with the jobs that moved to China and Mexico, well Lewis Black can bring tears to your eyes, tears of joy and laughter, something we can all use a lot more of right now.
With a Lewis Black DVD you can take off the oxygen mask and start breathing again.
DVD Review: Best Standup EVER Summary: 5 StarsLewis Black is simply top notch...he says what's on his mind, and he says it with the vigor I feel many times!
If you are looking for radical honesty in the form of hilarity...this is the standup comic you've been looking for.

"Apoplectic" is the word to describe Lewis Black's 2006 engagement at Washington DC's Warner Theater. There's eye-crossing, teeth-gnashing, raspy-voiced yelling, and liberal use of the f-word. (As Black reveals, the Kennedy Center refused their facilities on the grounds that he used the word 42 times in his first hour-long HBO special.) Then again, George W. Bush's second term has given the comedian much to be apoplectic about--Dick Cheney's hunting mishap, airport (in)security, the president's support of creationism, and the inanity of 24-hour cable news. At one point, he admits, "I just can't keep up with all the...stuff," although that isn't his exact phrase. Lest potential viewers think Black (The Daily Show, Black on Broadway) is nothing but a blue state apologist, he makes his distaste for John Kerry clear, i.e. "The fact of the matter is for the Democrats not to be able to find somebody who could've defeated George Bush is beyond belief--it's stunning." Black also explores misconceptions about Judaism, the media obsession with Terry Schiavo, and myths about the "homosexual agenda," which is to say: there isn't one. A few too many excretory jokes aside, Black otherwise makes good points and produces hearty laughs--some from his proud parents, who are part of the audience. As for the extras, they're brief, but amusing, and English is the only audio option. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
