the legend of zelda aired friday's when originally broadcast in conjunction with the super mario bros. super show which both cartoons were shown with live action segments of the mario bros. on the dvd release of this series only a couple of the live action sequences were left intact and the reasoning behind it was because some of the zelda episodes were shown with a live action episode used from a previous SMBSS segment i bought both of these shows and upon watching them do recall some of the live action from the SMBSS episodes being used with the legend of zelda when it originally aired. so when these dvd's were released the zelda episodes that would "borrow" a live action segment from the mario cartoons were left out to avoid confusing people who own both the SMBSS and zelda series on dvd of watching a re-run of the live action segments. my only dislike is it costs $25 for 13 episodes when the first volume of the SMBSS comes with 24 epidodes and is around the same price. but all in all i'm happy to be able to watch all my fav childhood cartoons again, with Captain N: The Game Master being my #1 favDVD Review: a classic show to a classic game franchise

I don't why I liked this show as a teenager in the 80's. It makes a complete mockery of the Legend of Zelda franchise. WHY DID NINTENDO APPROVE OF THIS??? Never in all of Legend of Zelda gaming history has Link expressed ANY romantic interest in Zelda, WHATSOEVER. Also I'm looking at the front of the box cover to this DVD set right now...why does Link has light brown hair and a stern expression on his face? In other words, looking almost like the REAL Link? In the cartoon series, the fake Link (I'm calling him fake) had dark, black hair and most of the time a goofy, surfer dude expression on that mug of his. Guess they really want to sell this DVD set, so make the front box cover look almost like the real Link. Ugh...I hate the 80's now more than ever, thinking about this cartoon. 80's...R.I.P. (or not. LOL)

The animated series The Legend Of Zelda debuted in 1989 on Fridays during The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! week-daily broadcast. It originally aired in conjunction with the first Legend Of Zelda game release and breathes life into the characters of Link, Princess Zelda and the evil wizard Ganon - fleshing out their personalities with a little bit of romance and a dash of humor.

Inspired by the popular 1980s Nintendo game, The Legend of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series contains 13 enjoyable, self-deprecating adventures featuring haughty Princess Zelda and her frustrated, would-be suitor and courageous ally, Link. Guardians of the Triforce of Wisdom, a powerful object that sits, curiously unguarded, in Zelda's castle, the stuck-up princess and grousing Link are forever fending off assaults by the evil Ganon, a sort of underworld demon. Ganon wants the Triforce of Wisdom because he possesses a similar Triforce--together, the magical items would make him all-powerful. While there's a lot of sword-and-sorcery action, the tone of Legend of Zelda's short pieces is unmistakably comic, driven by a constant and unrelieved romantic tension between the two leads. Link is constantly saving Zelda's hide, ever-hopeful of a kiss, while Zelda keeps him on tenterhooks, leading him right to the brink of satisfaction and then.well, maybe next time. Among the best episodes is "The White Knight," in which Zelda's infatuation with a vain, preening demon-slayer sends an irritated Link packing-until the interloper refuses to rescue Zelda because he might get his clothes dirty.
