DVD Reviews of Led ZeppelinDVD Review: Not too shabby! Summary: 3 StarsSome real good sound and picture quality going on here. Also some scenes and interesting camera angles that made it more interesting than the run-of-the-mill "rockumentary". Jimmy Page is an extraordinary guitarist no doubt, but I thought a little too much attention was given to his constant hyper-speed attack on his guitar rather than his ability to reach the listener with true music - I guess that's what he thought we wanted playing live. That being my only complaint, it should be a double disc DVD dream come true for a hard-core Led Zep fan.
DVD Review: Hard to Review Summary: 1 StarsHard to review. I ordered it over a month ago, and it hasn't arrived yet.
DVD Review: Pure Magic Summary: 5 StarsI begged my husband for this DVD and it was the best Valentine's gift I ever got! I grew up in the '60s and '70s but was forbidden to listen to rock music and missed out on hearing Zep (with the exception of at my senior prom where my soul came alive to 'Stairway to Heaven'). I recall being in total awe and that feeling has only grown throughout the years.
I have every Led Zeppelin song loaded into my ipod and each and every day as I exercise it is the mighty Led Zep that has kept my figure nice & tight all these years...lol. I never got to rock out in my younger days but I am making up for it now. This is music that never ages! I can listen to every song over and over and it never gets stale. And my workouts would not be so effective if I didn't have Achilles Last Stand, When the Levee Breaks, Kashmir or Trampled Underfoot getting my adrenalin flowing.
This DVD is absolutely awesome and fills me in on what I missed in my younger years. It makes me crave to go back in time, to be a teenager again and to live in those moments. What I wouldn't give to have a time machine and be in those crowds where I SHOULD have been, watching and screaming in sheer amazement at the magic before me. It is all so bittersweet now, seeing and hearing these Gods of Rock and wondering how my parents could have been so cruel as to keep me from the experience!
The wonderful thing is that my teenage daughter not only likes Zep, but it is almost mandatory in her high school to be a fan! It blows my mind that the same band that I was forbidden from hearing is still as popular today as it was then. There has never been anyone like them and there never will be, and their work is timeless.
I love the entire DVD set, but what blew me away was John Bonham performing 'Moby Dick'. I have always been a huge fan of his drumming (he is my favorite of the group because of that) but to see him live and up close left me in total awe. It also made me feel so sad and empty at knowing he is gone, because he truly was the greatest drummer that has ever lived, in my humble opinion.
I gave this DVD 5-stars but really, I would give it more if I could.
This is the closest thing to a time-machine, and I know I will be watching it again and again.
DVD Review: Paul (AKA J. Paul Jones) is dead! Summary: 4 StarsThis is great music and definitely worth purchasing, still after watching this video I have to share that it soon becomes painfully apparent that the ego of Page, personal animosity, or whatever makes seeing any footage of JP Jones in action almost comically absent. You would think he was a leprous session player even in songs like Achilles Last Stand that feature a central & immortal bass line. I enjoy seeing the whole band in action, but apparently Jimmy is worried that someone might discover there is another person on stage playing a stringed instrument and playing it well. After a bit it becomes a game where you keep telling yourself, they've got to cut the cameras over to Jonesy for this part, but it don't happen. Great music, but not a gracious video. Does no one else notice this?
DVD Review: Absolutly Amazing!! Summary: 5 StarsQuite simply, this DVD set is Amazing!! I have never been a huge fan of "live" music but have always been a HUGE fan of Led Zeppelin (since the 70's!!). I swear it did not take 2 seconds into the first DVD to realize this was fantastic!! (And what I had missed by not watching them "live" before now!!) Led Zeppelin's performances are so awesome that it literally takes you THERE. Detail & clarity are fantastic! I LOVE this and HIGHLY recommend it! Don't miss out on this awesome experience!!

Legendary and long sought-after, this live Led Zeppelin collection is nothing less than the rock music equivalent of the Holy Grail. Quite simply, this is what all the fuss was about. Given that they were the biggest band in the world, Zeppelin were notoriously camera-shy in their heyday. Their official filmic legacy until now has been just the fascinating but flawed The Song Remains the Same. While this new set presents some previously unseen footage from the same 1973 Madison Square Garden gigs, its real wonders lie in the earlier (1970) Royal Albert Hall footage and the later Earls Court (1975) and Knebworth (1979) concerts. Everything here looks and sounds new-minted, thanks to painstaking restoration and remastering of both audio and visual sources, a Herculean labor of love on the part of co-producer Dick Carruthers working hand-in-glove with Jimmy Page. Trawling through thousands of yards of previously unseen film and unheard tape recordings--some with missing visuals, some with missing audio--Page and Carruthers have chosen only the best possible footage available. They were also at pains to make the segments segue seamlessly so that the viewer is treated to what feels like a continuous concert--just sample the transition from a grainy Super 8 "Immigrant Song" (Sydney, 1972) to "Black Dog" at MSG. Highlights? It's not hyperbole to say that every powerhouse minute of this collection (some 230 minutes of concert footage plus another hour and a half of extra DVD material) is a rare musical and visual treat. But hearing Page's violin bow work on "Dazed and Confused" in DTS or Dolby 5.1 is an experience not soon forgotten. --Mark Walker
