DVD Review: Captivating.
Summary: 5 Stars
This movie features Maria Felix, one of Mexico's leading ladies in its cinema heyday, in the lead role. She's a girl who works at a sewing factory and through a chance invitation to an elegant party she realizes there is another life out there and decides that she wants to be a part of the more privileged set. She achieves her goal by manipulating various men. And eventually she gets discovered and in the end is working as a nightclub singer. Which, truthfully, is probably still better than the sewing factory. While not a great beauty she is still eye-catching. And the story keeps one captivated from beginning to end. In the end, even though her methods lacked soul, I felt sorry she wasn't able to maintain her privileged lifestyle. I recommend this movie whole-heartedly. It is in Spanish, I don't know if English subtitles are included or not.
