DVD Reviews of Kiss the Girls (1997) / The Gift (2001) (Double Feature)DVD Review: I dislike this kind of movie Summary: 2 StarsWhat I dislike is the playing of audience's worst side.
The antihero status given to serial killers is a bad thing ( in moral
and social terms).
The publicity and books about them may sell;
true crime magazines go back in the 1800's, but
making the methods and motivations so public may encourage
others to do the same.
In this movie the female lead is done very well,
as is the staging and dialog. The movie is very well
done; it just have very few socially redeeming qualities
besides being a 'seller' at the box office.
DVD Review: Fantastic Movie!!! Summary: 5 StarsMorgan Freeman and Ashley Judd work so well together in this movie based on James Patterson's book of the same name. Ashley is phenomenal in her portrayal of strong independent woman who remains strong throughout her tragic ordeal. Morgan is a consummate professional in his portrayal of Dr. Alex Cross. (I can't read a Patterson book about Alex Cross anymore without seeing Morgan Freeman's face.) His portrayal is exactly as I had imagined it in reading the book. Overall, this is a really good movie and was made very well. The chemistry between the actors, the surprising twists and turns and the overall story line is fantastic. If you like mystery/suspense movies, Ashley, Morgan or James Patterson books, you will love this movie.
DVD Review: Wonderful team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 StarsMorgan Freeman plays a very good part, and Ashely Judd, the same. when you see them two in a movie, you already now it's going to be a great movie. Ashely Judd, and Morgan Freeman are a great team. I'm a huge Morgan Freeman fan. The man could read the phone book, and I would love to it!!!!

Description of Kiss the Girls (1997) / The Gift (2001) (Double Feature)KISS THE GIRLS: Eight kidnapped women. All beautiful. All talented. All in danger of having their lives cut cruelly short if police detective Alex Cross and key witness Kate Mctiernan can't locate the elusive "collector" who calls himself Casanova. From the Deep South to the California coast and back, the hunt is on in this provocative race-against-time suspenser based on the best-selling novel by James Patterson. Ashley Judd plays resourceful, strong-willed Kate Mctiernan. She's the lone escapee from Casanova's hidden lair... and determined to rescue the fellow captives she left behind. Morgan Freeman is Detective Alex Cross, a master at solving the unsolvable. THE GIFT: Oscar-Winner and Golden Globe. Winner Cate Blanchett leads an incredible all-star cast including Academy Award.-winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry), Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Katie Holmes (Wonder Boys), Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan), and Oscar.-nominee Greg Kinnear (As Good As It Gets) in this stylishly filmed mystery that's as eerie as a backwoods swamp with a dark secret beneath it's even darker surface. Widow and mother of three, Annie Wilson (Blanchett), makes her living by foretelling others' futures...though her own has become cloudier than even she can see. Threatened by a client's violently jealous husband (Reeves) and plagued by visions of a missing towns-girl (Holmes), Annie is unwittingly pulled into a thicket of lies and deception in which her extraordinary gift could be used against her...and get her killed. Written by Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) and Tom Epperson (A Family Thing), and directed by Sam Raimi (A Simple Plan), The Gift is a gripping tale of supernatural intrigue...and chilling terror. Coming after The Silence of the Lambs and Seven, this thriller about a collaboration between two serial killers feels like a pale attempt to cash in on the success of those earlier, better films. That's a pity, because this film certainly has its strengths--particularly in the central performances of Morgan Freeman as a forensic detective and Ashley Judd as a would-be victim who escaped from one of the killers. Director Gary Fleder demonstrates visual flair and maintains an involving undercurrent of tension, but as this adaptation of James Patterson's novel approaches its climax, familiar elements combine to form a chronic case of thriller d?j? vu. It's altogether competent filmmaking in the service of a moribund story of competing psychopaths, and by the time the serial killers reach the home stretch of their twisted contest, the movie's dangerously close to Freddy Kruger territory, with a finale that could've been borrowed from any dozen similar thrillers. --Jeff Shannon
