I rate this video a marginal 4 stars, for overall production, presentation and content.
Here Mr. Tatum explains a bit of American Kenpo history, core concepts of the art, as well as his career. You'll get a taste of what the art of American Kenpo is like and what it can be about, for you. Mr. Tatum breaks down the physical form of American Kenpo, into short demonstrations of basic offensive and defensive fighting principles. So that what you have here, are 'visual concepts' that explain linear and circular motion as well as, height, width, depth and timing zones. In between the 'visual concepts', Mr. Tatum informs you about the founder of American Kenpo, Ed Parker. He goes on to talk about what American Kenpo has done for him and how far he's taken it.
I couldn't really give this video a 5 star rating, because I felt that the film production aspect of it was a bit amateurish. Now I don't think Mr. Tatum had that much of a hand in the post-production of the video, so I don't think it's his fault. But the editing and voice-over narration cuts into the 'visual concepts' described above (which is a bit distracting) and the sound during the short demonstrations doesn't tune into Mr. Tatums' voice very clearly.
Honestly, if you're already training in the Kenpo system, then this video is not necessary. BUT, if you're curious about the art of American Kenpo, are just starting out in its belt system, or are a collector of American Kenpo accoutrements -- then this is the video for you! Enjoy!
