DVD Reviews of John Fogerty: The Long Road Home in ConcertDVD Review: Barefoot Girls Dancing in the Moonlight Summary: 4 StarsThis is a great DVD for Fogarty and/or Creedence Clearwater Revival fans because it contains the best songs from both Creedence and Fogarty's solo career. Some Creedence fans complain because some of their favorite songs aren't included, by like John says, he wrote so many songs, he can't remember them all. How can you expect him to play them all?
It's not 9 chord Hendrix, it's 3 chord straight rock and roll with a country flavor. And, man, nobody does it better than Fogarty. I'm especially partial to Fogarty's bayou songs: "Green River"; "Born on the Bayou"; and "Green River." But the beauty of this concert is it spans Fogarty's entire career. There's tunes from the original "Creedence Clearwater Revival" album like "Keep on Chooglin'" up through the more recent hits like "Centerfield". And, of course, the huge hits: "Proud Mary"; "Fortunate Son"; and "Bad Moon Rising."
I really enjoyed this concert DVD, and will play it from time-to-time. It brings back memories of that day I brought the "Green River" lp and played it a 100 times when I was 15.
DVD Review: Flawless Summary: 5 StarsJohn Fogerty live and raw the way he sounds best. All the classics, great vox, flawless musicianship that we have come to expect from this amazing rock musician. John Fogerty rocks!
DVD Review: JOHN FOGERTY "THE LONG ROAD HOME" DVD Summary: 5 StarsTHIS IS AN OUTSTANDING GUITAR AND BAND ROCK & ROLL CONCERT DVD!!! JOHN FOGERTY AND HIS BAND PERFORM EXCELLENT VERSIONS OF CREDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL SONGS, ALONG WITH SOME NEW JOHN FOGERTY SONGS!!! JOHN AND HIS BAND PERFORM AT THEIR BEST AT THIS CONCERT FILMED SEPTEMBER 15,2005 AT THE WILTERN THEATER IN LOS ANGELES BEFORE A PACKED ENTHUSIASTIC CROWD!!!
THE SET LIST CONSISTS OF 26 SONGS, ALL VERY WELL PERFORMED!!! JOHN USUALLY HAS A STORY TO TELL ABOUT ALMOST EVERY SONG PERFORMED. JOHN IS AN EXCELLENT GUITARIST!!! PLUS, HIS BAND IS VERY GUITAR ORIENTED AND THEY PLAY VERY WELL!!! TOTAL RUNNING TIME IS APPROX.100 MINUTES!!!
JOHN TALKS ABOUT HIS LIFELONG FASCINATION WITH THE GULF COAST AREA OF THE UNITED STATES, PARTICULARLY NEW ORLEANS AND THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER!!!
JOHN AND HIS BAND PERFORM AND OUTSTANDING VERSION OF "BORN ON THE BAYOU"!!! (THEY THROW IN SOME EXTENDED GUITAR SOLOS INTO THE SONG, MAKING IT BETTER!!!) ANOTHER GREAT ONE IS "DOWN ON THE CORNER" - AGAIN OUTSTANDING!!! THEN THERE'S "UP AROUND THE BEND" AND OF COURSE "PROUD MARY" (A SONG ABOUT THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WITH A POSITIVE MESSAGE ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF THE REGION - "PEOPLE ON THE RIVER ARE HAPPY TO GIVE"!!!
EVEN THOUGH JOHN IS FROM CALIFORNIA, I THINK HE HAS A VERY GOOD APPRECIATION AND UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE PEOPLE AND CULTURE OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND NEW ORLEANS REGION!!!!
BEING FROM LOUISIANA MYSELF, I CAN REALLY APPRECIATE THE GREAT SONGS THAT
JOHN HAS WRITTEN AND SUNG ABOUT CONCERNING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER (AND THE GOOD PEOPLE ON THE RIVER ARE HAPPY TO GIVE), AND ESPECIALLY THE SONG "BORN ON THE BAYOU"!!! "BORN ON THE BAYOU" IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN AND RECORDED. THANKS JOHN!!!
JOHN REALLY HAS A DEEP APPRECIATION FOR THE MISSISSIPPI AND NEW ORLEANS REGION. THIS CONCERT WAS FILMED NOT LONG AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA AND JOHN EXPRESSES HIS SADNESS FOR THE NEW ORLEANS REGION. HE STATES "THAT HE TRULY LEFT HIS HEART IN NEW ORLEANS"!!!
OVERALL, THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING CONCERT DVD, AND JOHN IS REALLY "INTO IT", PERFORMING EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, AND TALKING TO THE AUDIENCE VERY WELL!!! FOLKS, THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE A CLASSIC AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! THANKS JOHN FOR THE EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE AND FOR YOUR SONGS ABOUT MY REGION OF THE COUNTRY!!!
DVD Review: Too fast Summary: 3 StarsThe video and sound is good and clean but the band runs through the songs too fast. I mean the tempo is much faster than the studio versions. It just seems like they want to get the show finished as soon as possible. I don't think it is Fogerty's fault. They do play all the hits however. The Premonition concert is better even though it misses a number of classic songs.
DVD Review: I LOVED this concert! John Fogerty "Rocks"! Summary: 5 StarsSpent a great evening watching this DVD concert. All the songs are good ones, no useless filler. He sounds great and just sang one hit after another. You knew the sound or tempo was about to change as he reached for a new guitar or harmonica. The back-up band was really rocking and enhanced the performance. He sang many Creedence songs and did it well. I would highly recommend this DVD. You can't go wrong.
