I was pleased with this DVD. It is a live concert and of course it was recorded some time ago so the quality isn't as good as it would be today. But, if you like Jimi Hendrix it's worth your money to buy this concert DVD.

While there were not many videos from this era in rock music, this is a good one. Jimi's performance was actually too good for this particular crowd. They're level of appreciation was deplorable. Maybe they were expecting folk music?

DVD Review: The show where everything went wrong?

After this, Jimi Hendrix might have had a feeling that he was cursed because his Woodstock show was planned to be done late at night at the end of the festival after everyone was tired, and then after performing at around two in the morning, when everyone was tired. There were also a few technical difficulties that happened, but they always say that the show must go on.

I think the set list is one of his best. This was around the end of Hendrix's life, so just about every song that he had done had been done, including the stuff that wasn't released until after he died. I feel that when comparing it to the other big concert that he did with this band, Live at Berkeley (from listening to the albums), his guitar playing stood out here more than it did on the Berkeley album when I first heard them. On the bad side, "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)" was probably done while the cameramen were reloading because although it's on the short album of the show, it's missing here, and I can guess that it wasn't just deleted for the fun of it because the editors tried to include as much of it as possible.

I think that this is one of the best Hendrix live DVDs and although it's not perfect, it's raw and live, which I like.

I would reccommend any other live performances by Jimi, this is near his death and was not enjoying himself, he was not comfortable. Townshend has said that Jimi was a wreck. I enjoyed most all the live work by Jimi, the best performance is the full Woodstock set. Unlike the Isle show, at Woodstock he do no wrong. He's like the dove rising above the flames. I really like this concert. Jimi was tired, jet lagged, and also had the flu from what i read in "the final days." despite all of that, the man rocked!!

Those familiar with the original Isle of Wight DVD/VHS release will be pleasantly surprised by Blue Wild Angel. For one thing, the soundtrack has been remixed in both stereo and 5.1 surround. Hendrix's legendary Isle of Wight show may have been notoriously riddled with technical difficulties, but in all honesty, it is one of his better live recordings, and Eddie Kramer's remix sounds superb. Next, Blue Wild Angel includes many songs missing from the original release such as "Lover Man," "Foxey Lady," "Message to Love," "Ezy Rider," and "Purple Haze." By far the highlights of the performance are the mesmerizing, newly unedited versions of "Red House" and "Machine Gun." Finally, as an added bonus, the concert is introduced by a mini documentary about Hendrix's involvement with the Isle of Wight festival. This introduction is told through new interviews with Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, and Eddie Kramer and footage from Murray Lerner's Message to Love: The Isle of Wight Festival rockumentary. Blue Wild Angel is a great addition to any Hendrix fan's collection. --Rob Bracco
