DVD Reviews of Jillian Michaels - 30 Day ShredDVD Review: AN ABSOLUTE LIFE-CHANGING MUST Summary: 5 Stars
OMG!
So I completed the 30 day shred!!!!!!!! Im sure you all know how it works by all the other reviews so im going to talk about how I felt, and what kept me going. Before I begin just know that you NEED this dvd. It is an insult not to buy it.
I ALWAYS say ok im going to lose some weight, and start eating healthy and going to the gym. It always lasts about a week tops. I never ever imagined I would be able to complete the shred. I even tried it sometime last year and gave up on my FIRST day of level 2. I could not hack it. I thought who am I kidding? Exercise is not for me!
But it is. It can be for everyone. I was just a hopeless idiot. So I tried again and decided to keep at it. The fact that it is only about 25 minutes kept me going. The fact that if I missed a day, the next day it was harder kept me going. What really spurred me on to continue doing it daily is the fact that it got easier each time I did it. I felt stronger within just a few days and this feeling was great! I felt powerful, like I could do anything. Even if results were not showing (which they were), I still FELT amazingly trim! Hand on heart, if I can do it, ANYONE can!
Jillian herself (what a beast) keeps you going also. She talks throughout the moves which makes you feel like you are doing the moves for less time. I think shes so clever too. She has clearly worked out the dvd in a way that makes it possible to keep going until the end. Plus the fact that her two buddies struggle with the moves makes you feel that you are not alone. We all have to work for the body we want.
Ive always been curvy and I do like being curvy, but I was at a point where these curves for getting rather large and I developed a bit (understatement) of a belly! I had to do something. My friends were talking about going on holiday! BIKINI BIKINI BIKINI!!!
I did the shred over 36 days. On three days I did not do it, I did some form of exercise such as tennis, walking and weights. On the other three, life just got in the way and I did not have the time. To make it simpler, I did the 30 day shred 5-7 days a week, NO less than 5. Before the 30 day shred I virtually did no exercise. Apart from walking to my car which is actually parked on my road.
When I started level 1 it was hard but doable. I did it for about 12 days. I will mention that after doing level 1 the first few days my body was KILLING me. But that does go away, you just have to power through it and the pain goes away like it was never there.
Then I moved on to Level 2.
I thought I was going to die. I wanted to kill her. I thought I would quit. This is the stage where it took the most PUSHING. The first few days of level 2 were hell. But I knew I had to keep going. I think the trick is to not be too hard on yourself. If you dont feel like following "bad ass" natalie, then don't. Modify it to suit you, but don't chicken out entirely. It does get easier and I think that if you have that in your mind it helps you see the light at the end of the tunnel. I did this for about 11 days.
Level 3 was (and still is) hard but it is challenging. First few times I did it it was quite hard but I knew I would not allow myself to quit after coming so far. At this point I was so much stronger. I thought back to before when I could not even hold a plank position LET ALONE do plank jacks etc! Amazing! At this point I could also do "man push-ups". Who would have thought!
The satisfaction you feel when reaching the cool down stretches is unbelievable. You honestly feel like you've just conquered the world, smiling and everything. Completing this shred has undoubtably been the proudest acheivement of my life (22 years old). Im even prouder of this than I am at getting my degree!
I did not go on a "diet" but I tried to eat better. For example I would try to have soups for lunch, eat more fruit & veg etc where possible and try to have breakfast in the mornings. I also tried to drink mostly water and just made smarter choices. However I still had massive boozy nights out, once a week. I still had the odd Chinese takeaway. Thats another thing that I think made it more possible. I did not deprive myself of anything. Many people say stuff like "whats the point in exercising if you're just going to eat that chocolate bar" etc. I think thats such CRAP. It is more acheivable when you do not deprive yourself. Imagine going on a hard core diet and exercise programme. It would not last (for me anyway), and I realised this is where I go wrong. I kept throwing myself in to a strict regime which was too miserable to keep up with. I still lived my regular life but with better choices.
And I lost about 1-2 inches all over; chest, arms, hips etc. I think this proves that I don't have to put myself on a diet at all. Yes, my goal might take a little longer? but for me, its the only way this goal will ever be acheived. The most visual difference I see is in the ab section. I can see muscles coming through, and my waist is two inches smaller. What I also gained from this DVD was learning that I can do anything if I put my mind to it which makes me so happy, determined and proud.
Now I will continue with the shred and start to alternate it with her other dvds, as I've read that they're good.
Good luck to you all!

Description of Jillian Michaels - 30 Day ShredJillian Michaels is TV's toughest trainer, but she is committed to getting big results. As your own personal trainer, Jillian will guide you through her exclusive 3-2-1 Interval System that combines strength, cardio and abs to blast through calories for a dramatic 30 DAY SHRED. The program includes three complete 20-minute workouts which progress by level of intensity. Start with Level 1 and advance through Level 3 ? in no time you'll achieve a lean, shredded body. When Jillian Michaels says "you can lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days" by following her 20-minute-a-day workout, believe her. There's a reason her 30 Day Shred workout has become a national hit: it works. But anyone who's ever seen Michaels work out with contestants on The Biggest Loser knows it's not necessarily going to be easy. The 30 Day Shred features three 20-minute workouts, each of which features, in rapid succession, short bursts of strength, cardio, and abs, and a cool-down. Sound easy? Think again. Even the beginner-level workout will have users' heart rates up. Michaels allows no resting between each short burst of exercise, which is part of why the results happen so quickly. The transitions between strength, which can feature classic moves like pushups or reps with small weights, and cardio, and then between cardio and abs, are a mere second or two. But that pacing helps guarantee the results that Michaels touts. "This helps you burn more fat and more calories, and gets you toned that much faster," Michaels exhorts as she zips through the exercises. There are a few modified moves for true beginners, but even for them, Michaels doesn't cut much slack; everyone has to do real jumping jacks, and a lot of them. "I have 400-pound people who can do jumping jacks," Michaels says "and if they can do it, you can do it!" The only thing you need to jump into the 30 Day Shred is a set of small hand weights, and, if you have a hard floor, a mat for the floor moves. Otherwise, commit 20 minutes a day for a month, and get that lean, shredded body you've always wanted. --A.T. Hurley
