DVD Reviews of Jesus & the Shroud of TurinDVD Review: My favorite of the Shroud DVDs currently available Summary: 5 StarsMy faith isn't dependent on the Shroud, but I believe in the Shroud and wanted to have a documentary about it in my library. This DVD had the best combination of respect and science of those I viewed via Netflix.
DVD Review: This is a fantastic DVD Summary: 5 StarsEvery time I've viewed this DVD, it has given me the chills. Highly recommended. I can't wait to get the latest DVD on this subject called "The Fabric of Time."
DVD Review: A Great Program on the Controversial Shroud of Turin Summary: 5 StarsI used this program in an adult Sunday School class, and the response from the group was tremendous. We all sat in rapt attention, as the Shroud of Turin Research Group (STURP) investigated the shroud and brought forth its detailed findings. The evidence is strong (although not certain), that the Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of a man who was crucified in the area around Jerusalem (all this is ascertainable through pollen studies, image studies, and fiber analysis of the shroud). Whether it is THE burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth can not be proven, although there is strong evidence that it just may be.
There is a great debate as to whether the Shroud is real or a clever forgery. This is a pro-shroud program, presenting strong evidence that it could be the burial cloth of Christ.
The image on the Shroud cannot be fully explained today, even with advanced technologies. The one damaging piece of evidence against the shroud being the burial cloth of Christ is the carbon dating, which dates the cloth to around 1250 AD - 1300 AD. If this data is true, then this cannot be the shroud of Christ. Most scientists hold to this view. However, this program presents evidence that puts the carbon dating method in question.
There are many other resources available on the shroud, both books and films, and many take pro or con positions. Although this is obviously a pro-shroud program, I thought it answered the common objections and criticisms of the Shroud of Turin quite well.
The film is well-done and a quality presentation. It is certainly thought-provoking and it will generate much discussion. It may change your faith as well. I highly recommend this program as a starting point for your study on the Shroud of Turin.
The program is also available in VHS, but I prefer the ease of use of the DVD over VHS.

DVD Review: The specific wounds are consistent with only one cause of death-crucifixion. Summary: 5 StarsHaving seen the actual Shroud of Turin myself, it was of great interest to me to see this documentary film, which sets out to prove it's authenticity.
It begins with a basic examination of the most prominent wounds on the Shroud: A stab wound near the fifth rib, areas of bleeding in the feet and on the left wrist (the right wrist being covered by the left), a pattern of blood dotting the scalp, and a mass of small slashes on the front and back. The blood is determined to be type AB (thus proving it is real blood), and the stab wound in the side is consitent with the biblical description of Jesus being speared on the cross to expedite his death. The wound in the left wrist is the area where the Romans nailed the victims of Crucifixion by the arms; the scalps wounds could be where the crown of thorns was placed; and the streaks of blood across the body exactly match the shape of the Roman flagrum.
In only one hour, thisfilm covers everything needed to prove the Shorud's authenticity, from traces of pollen found on it that only grow in Israel, to UV light used to prove the image was not painted on, to the discovery of bacteria on the Shroud that significantly skewered previous carbon dating tests, and even to the entertaining of the possibility that radiation emitted from Jesus body during the resurrection both implanted the image on the Shroud and further threw off carbon dating tests (the former, the filmmakers and scietists say, would account for the remarkably skeletal appearance of the figure on the Shroud.)
After watching THE EXODUS REVEALED: SEARCH FOR THE RED SEA CROSSING, it would behoove us all to see JESUS AND THE SROUD OF TURIN.
DVD Review: The Best On The Subject Summary: 5 StarsFor those interested in the latest facts regarding what may have produced the image on the shroud, you've got to get this DVD. It includes a number of scientists who actually inspected it back in 1978 & today, with technology not available 27 years ago, have updated their findings & opinions. Among other findings, they have determined there is human blood on the shroud & the image was not produced by any pigment, chemical reaction or scorching. It was most likely produced by some form of radiation. It is a fascinating film which keeps you riveted & wanting to study the subject more.
Description of Jesus & the Shroud of TurinIn 1898, Secondo Pia was the first man to photograph the Shroud of Turin, the burial cloth believed to have covered Christ's body after the Crucifixion. Pia made a startling discovery: his photography plate revealed the detailed image of a man. The shroud had created a photographic negative of the face and body of Christ. This video examines skepticism over the shroud's authenticity, debunking scientists who recently claimed that it could not be more than 600 years old. Those who believe in its authenticity trace its origins to a much earlier date. On the Friday of the Crucifixion, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus prepared the body of Jesus for burial in the garden tomb, first rubbing the body with aloe and myrrh, then wrapping it in the large burial shroud. On Sunday morning Mary Magdalene discovered the empty tomb and raced to tell the disciples. Peter and John rushed to the tomb and saw only the shroud lying on the stone slab. From that time the shroud began its long journey around the Mediterranean to Turin, Italy, where it has drawn millions of pilgrims for centuries. Even now, as a new millennium dawns scientists have found there is still much we don't know about this, the most celebrated and controversial artifact in the history of Christianity. If you are a cynic, this video will challenge your skepticism. If you already believe, it will strengthen your faith.
