DVD Reviews of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Remastered Deluxe Edition)DVD Review: It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Summary: 4 StarsI have always liked the Peanuts Shows and I have everyone I can get. I am always hoping they put more on DVD since they take up less storage space than videos.
The only thing I have never like about It's the "Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" is Charlie Brown gets a bag full of rocks. I just wish that had never been put into the show. Other than that it's a good little show and I don't think it will warp a child's mind unless they are already disturbed. In that case I don't think preventing them watching "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" will be the answer.
DVD Review: Holiday Classic Summary: 4 StarsIt's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is, for me, one of those great holiday cartoons that I don't want to miss when it's shown on ABC. With the busy schedule that we all have, it's impossible to plan my life around the TV schedule (as I don't have Tivo) so it's good to have these kind of classics in my collection.
Everything from the music of Vince Guaraldi to the happiness in Snoopy's laugh this is a great film be you 7 or 70.
DVD Review: CLASSIC PEANUTS AT THEIR BEST! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Summary: 5 StarsWatching these Peanunts holiday specials was a yearly tradition in my house as a kid, but over the years with our busy lives we had grown not to watched them. I watched Zombie's Halloween the theatrical version of his remake of the classic and this was just what the doctor ordered for an after dinner mint! I have the original release and the DVD transfer looks fine, not much in the way of extras, but another Peanuts special 'You're not elected Charlie Brown'. I know that they have released these specials on "new improved" 2 disc set, but I'm a little tired of all this upgrading!..and I find it hard to believe they could fill another disc with extras! It's become a bit ridiculous, so I'll be sticking with the older edition and I'll be enjoying it every year!
Incidentally, The theatrical version of Zombie's Halloween is way better than the Unrated version! 3 1/2 stars! I couldn't review it because I did a review on the Unrated version some time ago and Amazon groups them all together!
Happy Halloween!
DVD Review: It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown Summary: 5 StarsIt was great on television avery year, it was great on VHS, and it's great on DVD. This belongs in every movie collector's collection.
DVD Review: Deeper Than We Might Think Summary: 4 StarsThis is an interesting Halloween special in that we may have to watch it a few times before we understand it. The movie starts with Linus and Lucy getting their pumpkin for Halloween. When Lucy starts to cut it up (obviously for the sake of making a Jackolantern), Linus gets upset. At the risk of sounding like a nature fanatic, Linus has his logic. As people, we cause great harm to the world around us for the sake of some brief pleasures. (If you are reading this Linus, don't think you didn't have a part in me just buying plug in light up plastic Jackolanterns.) Moving on, Linus writes a letter to his hero, the Great Pumpkin. Many people rebuke him for having this fantasy. But the reality is that Santa Clause is a fantasy as well, but it is an accepted fantasy. In short, Linus is being ridiculed and scorned because his fantasy is not the common one. Moving on, Linus chooses to spend Halloween waiting in the Pumpkin Patch for his hero. The other half of the story revolves us understanding that Charlie Brown DOES play by the rules. He gets dressed up, goes trick or treating, and then goes to the Halloween Party. BUT, he does NOT really have a good time. He only got a bag full of rocks, and Lucy and others are less than kind to Charlie. While this certainly has its sad elements, Linus does have one triumphant moment. He continues to believe in what's important to him even though it makes him the object of scorn. In a way, the message behind this is probably to be true to ourselves. It also reminds us that happiness won't always come from following the norm.
Description of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Remastered Deluxe Edition)Linus is determined to see the great pumpkin on halloween night even if it means missing tricks or treats. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/02/2008 Run time: 128 minutes Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his terribly sincere pumpkin patch (while the adoring little Sally sits tight with him), Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder, and Pig-Pen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic television broadcast. Funny stuff, but also graced with Charles Schultz's more poignant and gently satiric themes from the 1960s on the influence of faith, failure, and hope in our lives. --Tom Keogh
