DVD Review: In a Dark Place - Not a great flick
Summary: 2 Stars
In a Dark Place rates about two stars in my book. The first star is for the moody setting of an old estate, nice church yards and crypts. The second star is for the nearly nude footage tastefully if not tactfully filmed. I wouldn't be truthful if I complained about these scenes or denied enjoying them. However, these sequences as well as the aforementioned scenery were the only things this film had to offer this mildly dirty old horror movie fan.
The ending was even more disappointing than the earlier sequences. This was not a history making horror flick, but I always try to find something good in every well intentioned film (except DOGMA).

I'm glad I did not buy this movie or pay to rent it. It was a waste of time. We were trying to figure out what the heck was happening the whole time. It had potential to be a great movie, but there were too many ways to "guess" what was supposed to be happening. Nothing was answered. I can understand some movies leave you hanging a little, but at least they do with clearer ways to decide for yourself how you think it ended. Not this movie. It's like the writter couldnt make up his mind. I think I would like to read the book now just to see if it made more sense than this movie. Dont waste your time or money on the movie though. Summary: 2 Stars
It was intense at times but overall the movie boring as it dragged on. It made little sence until the terrible ending. The flashbacks made no sence untill later but it would have been a little better without them.
Description of In a Dark Place
Anna Veigh (Leelee Sobieski) a recently qualified art therapist and teacher is finding work a tougher psychological challenge that she had anticipated. The offer of a new position minding two young orphans while their wealthy uncle is away on business seems to be a perfect escape. Her new workplace is Bly House a remote country estate with beautiful grounds and a small resident staff. Miles and Flora the children seem sweet and charming. Anna thinks that she has really landed on her feet after the rigors of her previous job.
