DVD Reviews of I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (Deluxe Box Set)

DVD Review: Mindless fun
Summary: 4 Stars

If you're expecting originality you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the superb book this is based on you'll be let down. If you just want to sit down to enjoy a entertaining movie, that is well-acted (the supporting cast (Bridgette Wilson in particular) do as good a job as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe & Freddie Prince Jr.) you've come to the right page.

Four friends run over a man & dump his dead (?) body into the ocean after their drunken 4th July celebrations. One year later almost to the day, one of the friends receives a letter & the game is on. As it draws to 4th July the letters escalate to hair cutting, disappearing bodies & hit and runs.

I must mention that the main `stalk n slash' scene is gripping, edge-of-your-seat stuff. I wouldn't really call I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER a slasher though; it's more of a suspense thriller. The film focuses revenge.

The film relies on tension & building suspense instead of blood and gore, like classics such as HALLOWEEN. I'm not saying that I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is on that level, but it is well done. The film is better then it's chief comparison SCREAM because it seems more realistic.

I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is a huge let down. Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) & her new best buddie Karla (Brandy) win a holiday to the Bahamas. Once there they are stranded after a hurricane warning. The fisherman shows up & starts slicing & dicing.

The sequel is nowhere near the same level as the original. Also the style is different. I KNOW was a clever build-up of tension. I STILL KNOW is all about needless gore, bikinis, tight clothes & cheap scare tactics.

I'll be fair and say that I wasn't bored by I STILL KNOW, the jumps did get me & when the action started I was drawn in to the drama. The film was OK, but it's a let down after seeing what was done first.

The thriller versus the slasher. There is a huge difference. Judge for yourself.

DVD Review: i know what you did for a payday!
Summary: 1 Stars

these two movies are bottom of the barrel "slice and dice" movies and don't stand the true test of a good horror movie,do i want to see it again?(not on your life)! to be kind the first"summer" does show some sparks at first but soon settles into grab bag of every horror shock trick in the book. the actors try hard, but they just can't get past the hackend script and the lifeless direction!
"still" is worse than the first and even goes so far as to making great leaps over plot holes just to get to the gore!
skip it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DVD Review: The first is better then the second...
Summary: 5 Stars

...I Know were you did Last Summer was a good movie. About 4 friends who hit a man and since they thought he was dead (and didn't want to get into trouble) they droupped him to the bootom of and ocean. The following summer, they are begin stalked by someone who knows what they did...who could it be?

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was good too. Julie made new friends in college, and are taking a trip to the Bahamas. The weather is horrible, raining all day; the resort in empty, except for a few employees; and someone still knows what Julie did a few summers before.

All in all, these were good movies. They are not scary scary, but it does have it's moments that you will jump. I think that the first one is somewhat better then the second; but this does not mean that the second one is bad. I usually always feel in in a sequal or tridigy (whatever the case may be) the first one is better; it starts you off. Without the first movie, there wouldn't be a second or third. I'm probably not explaining it correctly, but I like the first one better.

Enjoy!

DVD Review: Well the second is better than the first...
Summary: 3 Stars

I hate JLH, and in these films she solidifies her annoyance...but for some reason i actually like the sequel...It's much darker and gorier than the first one. So, I say by the box set because a sequel is nothing without the original, but be prepared to tolerate the original and like the sequel (notice I say like and not love since these movies are far from great)...Brandy is actually a decent actress and is much better than JLH and steals the scenes from under her...All in all it's decent, not great, but worth a watch if your a diehard horror fan...

DVD Review: 5 for 1, 3 for 2
Summary: 4 Stars

I really enjoyed the original movie. Tons of great actors, and interesting story, and enough twists to keep things interesting. The second movie was more of a typical killer chasing someone an entire movie with a twist at the end. This is a nice set, 2 movies for just a little above what you would pay for 1. If you enjoyed the Scream movies and things like Urban Legends, then this one should be right up your alley.

Description of I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (Deluxe Box Set)

I Know What You Did Last Summer
As they celebrate their high school graduation, four friends are involved in a hit-and-run accident when their car hits--and apparently kills--a pedestrian on an isolated roadway. They dispose of the body and vow to keep the incident a secret, but a year later somebody starts sending them letters bearing the warning "I Know What You Did Last Summer." At that point the panicked foursome becomes the target of an elusive serial killer whose disguise consists of a fisherman's slicker and a lethal ice hook. Part mystery and part slasher flick, this thriller was heavily hyped as a follow-up to Scream by screenwriter Kevin Williamson (who later created the TV series Dawson's Creek), and like Scream it's a showcase for a teenage cast including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. And while this shocker isn't as inspired as its predecessor, it's guaranteed to give its target audience a few good thrills as it dives toward a routine climax of mayhem and murder. Based (rather loosely) on the popular novel by Lois Duncan. --Jeff Shannon

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
There was so much story left to tell after I Know What You Did Last Summer that the filmmakers brought back all the beloved, surviving characters from the first film for this sequel. Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Julie's white tank top (Jennifer Love Hewitt's white tank top) return to once again face a hook-wielding maniac. Not satisfied merely to repeat a theme, director Danny Cannon and screenwriter Trey Callaway add variation by introducing Karla (Brandy) as Julie's best friend in the whole wide world. Karla and Julie have won a summer trip to the Bahamas with their current infatuations but find that they've arrived at the start of the storm season and that their hotel "Do Not Disturb" signs should flip to say "R.I.P." One can only hope to hang just such a sign on this repetitive, tedious franchise, especially since this version is less scary than the price of beer in those little hotel-room refrigerators. Definite contender for Gratuitous T&A Shot of the Year (it's of Hewitt and that's not meant as a recommendation). --Keith Simanton
