DVD Review: Will Smith + Zombies = 5 Stars and a Must have!
Summary: 5 Stars
I love zombies and I love Will Smith. That said, this was still a top of the line zombie movie (which isn't easy!), and Smith was at his best. I cry every time I watch this (when he parts with his family and the dog scene). The special effects are top notch and the story is good, gripping, depressing and hopeful. A must see for everyone! Even those who don't love zombies or Will Smith! But really, how can you not?DVD Review: Disposable entertainment

It's a good movie, but not a classic. Too many plot holes....
For example.....
If this plague was as swift as the movie claims, and the vampires as strong as the tacky CGI implies, how did a fort get built by one man of that magnatude?
If the vampires as as strong ang as brutal as the CGI implies, how did a woman and her little kid who never syas a word drive through miles supposedly without a scratch? At one point she recuses Will Smith with an onslaught of light, but when her vehicle is shown later, there's just headlights and her supplies on the roof of the vehicle.
I could go on and on about all the things that made me scratch my head...like lions and jungle animals in NYC...how did they get so plentiful in 3 years? etc....how did he build the lights in the ground around his apartment if he waits on the dock at noon everyday...etc..
DVD Review: sci fi futurist

I love all Will Smith's movies, some more then others; however they seem to all be geered to the future. Which is good for sci fi people out their that love futurist movies. I do to. My kids thoroughly enjoyed this movie and they're teens, so that tells you something, if you can occupy your teens for their phones to a movie? Yes, they did. They watch several times a week. They tell their friends all about how they need to get it for xmas. His sci-fi movies never need parental supervision, the language is aways careful, no sex scenes involved. Just a lot of action, mutations and some sad parts. But it's one of those movies he makes that say "this could really happen." You will love it. It's better then I Robot, and I have that movie. So me and the teens watch a lot of his movies that deal with the future, and his humerous movies too. It just seem like kids, teens and adults today are really tuned into the futuristic aspects of life as opposed to the scarey "Freddy Kruger" movies, and the "Jason" movies. They do watch them on occassion, but they tend to keep going toward more realistic, in the future or sci-fi movies which depics a lot of what they hear and see in the medi, and alot of sci-fi movies today are about true happenings, future possibilities, and that make them think about not just today, but what about tomorrow? Mistakes happen, and I'm happy that this seller corrected this mistake immediately. While not as good as the original "The Omega Man", it`s still a pretty good end of the world type movie.
Generally remakes never come close to the same standards as the original. And while this one did fall short, it was much better
than I had expected. The special effects are better than the original, but given 40+ years difference they ought to be.
The main saving grace of this film is Will Smith. He`s an excellent actor and he did a good job on this movie. In his role as Robert
Neville, he really made you believe that he had been alone for three years. A little lost, a little robotic, a little crazy. Just
about what you would expect of a person who had been through something like that. Very much like Charlton Heston as Neville in the
original movie.
Is Will Smith in the same class as Charlton Heston? Not quite. But Smith is still fairly young. Give him another 5 or 10 years
and I think he will be at least as good. Maybe better.

For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time.Will Smith stars in the third adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic science-fiction novel about a lone human survivor in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by vampires. This new version somewhat alters Matheson's central hook, i.e., the startling idea that an ordinary man, Robert Neville, spends his days roaming a desolated city and his nights in a house sealed off from longtime neighbors who have become bloodsucking fiends. With an expressive German shepherd his only companion, Neville is a hunter-gatherer in sunlight, hiding from the mutants at night in his Washington Square town house and methodically conducting experiments in his ceaseless quest to conquer the disease.
The film's first half almost suggests that I Am Legend could be one of the finest movies of 2007. Director Francis Lawrence's extraordinary, computer-generated images of a decaying New York City reveal weeds growing through the cracks of familiar streets that are also overrun by deer and prowled by lions. It's impossible not to be fascinated by such a realistically altered cityscape, reverting to a natural environment, through which Smith moves with a weirdly enviable freedom, offset by his wariness over whatever is lurking in the dark of bank vaults and parking garages. Lawrence and screenwriters Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman wisely build suspense by withholding images of the monsters until a peak scene of horror well into the story. It must be said, however, that the computer-enhanced creatures don't look half as interesting as they might have had the filmmakers adhered more to Matheson's vampire-nightmare vision. I Am Legend is ultimately noteworthy for Smith's remarkable performance as a man so lonely he talks to mannequins in the shops he frequents. The film's latter half goes too far in portraying Smith's Neville as a pitiable man with a messianic mission, but this lapse into bathos does nothing to take away from the visual and dramatic accomplishments of its first hour. --Tom Keogh
