DVD Review: Rum required for proper viewing

I really enjoyed the film, but I did watch it under IDEAL circumstances, at an event in Omaha sponsored by Sailor Jerry's rum. The movie's laughs and many extroverted characters were surely heightened by the three free drinks we received before the showing began. Still, I'm giving this movie 4 stars because while not a perfect documentary (to be honest, Sailor Jerry's accomplishments just don't rank up there with the Ray Charles or Harvey Milk's of the world, keeping it from that last star), the film touches on many bases: it is a history of tattooing, a history of Hawaii and the Navy's presence there, and a compelling portrait of an interesting man. Plus, Sailor Jerry's many outlandish friends are simply hysterical.
A local Omaha website covered the event I went to ([...]), and I highly recommend that if you see similar a promotion in your area, you attend them. Watching the film alone will be fun, but it can't compare with the feeling in the above article's first line: "It is a rare and special thing to watch a movie with an entire theater you know has been drinking." It was a fun, light heartened film and a memorable evening.
