DVD Reviews of Hellsing (Complete Boxed Set)DVD Review: Newcomers to the genre... start with the BEST! Summary: 5 StarsI'm so tired of fans' anime lists and blogs treating Hellsing like the delinquent red headed stepchild of Anime. (These are the same people who exclude the classic Ninja Scroll movie from their Top Tens because it's too violent for their widdle minds to handle.) Beautiful visuals and animation, mature content, excellent English voice acting, and a pace that never lulls makes Hellsing one of the BEST. Man, and because it never gets the praise it deserves, I watched five other Anime series before finally giving Hellsing a shot. Except for Cowboy Beebop, I can tell you that I wholly regret the other four. In other words, I shoud have STARTED with Hellsing.
I mentioned visuals before... there are shots and sequences in this series that are scarier and more disturbing than most Hollywood films. I was downright giddy over some of it. I also mentioned voice acting. Hellsing is the ONLY Anime series that I've ever seen where the English dub is actually better than the Japanese dub. Even the plot has one of the coolest and most original twists on the vampire theme ever conceived: you find out right from the first episode that Count Dracula himself (cleverly called "Alucard") is the Hellsing Organization's prime weapon against other vampires! Instead of killing Dracula, the ancestral Van Hellsing captured and claimed his allegiance! That's way too cool for an Anime series...
Hellsing delivers. And if you're a newcomer to the genre and appreciate mature animated entertainment, then do yourself a big favor and start with Hellsing.
DVD Review: Not the cliched vampire anime I thought it would be. Summary: 5 StarsGood stuff. I figured it would be a run of the mill, shallow super vampire story...and in a way it is, but the anime is executed pretty darn well. If you're thinking about trying it, you should.
DVD Review: Definately a favorite series of mine. Summary: 5 StarsWatch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3E0UBEDCC7MES
DVD Review: Very generic. Summary: 3 StarsWhile the story for this anime is somewhat interesting, it is not very well planned out. The animation and musical score are lacking. I also thought that the script did not translate very well into English. To your average anime fan, this is probably a good anime. I personally did not like it.
DVD Review: Great series but you can get it a lot cheaper elswhere Summary: 4 StarsOk I just wanted to post this mainly not as a review but as a warning to those looking at buying it on Amazon. Check out [...] if you are looking at this item its only like $[...] for the box set new. I don't know what some people are thinking when they post prices. I'd feel bad if I gave no review so here it is.
If you are a Vampire Hunter D or Black Blood Brothers fan then you will love this series. Basic premis is that Master Vampire Allucard is the ultimate weapon against ghouls, necromancer and things that go bump in the night. His powers progress through the series similar to those in Trinity Blood ie he keeps restricitions on his power and only release certain restrictions against worthy opponets. The story line is a bit choppy at spots but the animation is very interesting. Certain characters are drawn in different perspectives and Allucards transformations look like something straight out of your nightmares. I was a bit disappointed when it ended because frankly I wanted more. But don't let that sway you because any good series should leave you wanting more. Voice dialog is decent drawing varies on the character but it should keep you interested and for a blood and guts action flick there is enough of a plot line to get you curious. If anybody has heard of any other Hellsing release please give a shout but to the best of my knowledge this is the only set there is and nothing new is in production.
