DVD Reviews of Held Up

DVD Review: Some DVDs are best left on the shelf!
Summary: 1 Stars

I admit it, they got me! I had already finished my shopping when I looked up on the shelf and saw this. Wow! A new one (to me) by Jamie Foxx and it has Nia Long in it? I love Jamie Foxx. He's a natural talent, someone I feel like I can relate too. Nia? Whatever she's selling, I'm buying. I don't care what it is, cars, clothes, music, just send her my way and she has a customer. But this film was sad. Nia isn't even in half of the movie!!! I must admit I waited for a laugh to come. I even tried forcing one at times, only to realize I was the only one laughing...

I think the other point that sold me on this was that it was less than ten bucks. Thinking back, there were a ton of these on the shelf and I even remember others standing in line snickering and shaking their heads as if too say, "he'll figure it out". Yep, they got me! This has to be the low point in both Nia and Jamie's careers. Low budget, low on laughs, low on making any kind of sense. I still feel duped realizing that even as I write this mild diatribe, someone is gonna get curious and check this thing out for themselves. Nay-nay I say! Go get a good book to read instead. Which reminds me, first thing tomorrow I'll take this garbage to my local library and donate it. At least that way, the next recipient won't have to pay for it!

DVD Review: This should have been notice more on commercial advertising the dvd
Summary: 5 Stars

Michael (Jamie Foxx's character) is stuck at a convenant store call "Sip & Zip" (I never heard of it either) anyways the reason why he is in the middle of no wear in Nevada's desert cause his car was stolen by some young kid. To make matters worst for him some Mexican's come their to robbed the place two of them got away but one stayed and had everybody hostage. And all the sheriff could care about most is who's winning his little league baseball team.

DVD Review: Don't Waste Your Time or Money
Summary: 1 Stars

Are you in the mood for a light, slapstick, silly comedy? Then avoid this movie at all costs. It's only funny in very rare moments and is a complete waste of time, talent, and beauty (Nia Long is not even in half the scenes). I guess good comedians like Jamie Foxx need their stinkers too.

The set up is Michael, played by Jamie Foxx, are on vacation in the Southwest when Rae, his finance, played by Nia Long, finds out he's blown their entire savings for a house on car. She gets mad and runs off and hitches a ride with a bunch of rough looking white folks to the airport, ending the engagement. Meanwhile, some slimly kids steals Michaels car leaving him stranded at the Zip & Sip convenience store, which is promptly held up and the slap sticky, I won't say comedy, gets wackier and dumber and less funny as the movie goes on.

I can't believe I actually sat through the whole thing. Two thumbs down.

DVD Review: Jamie was held up for money on this one!
Summary: 1 Stars

my Jamie really needed the money bad when he made this one! and also this was brobally when he was trying to get his feet wet in breaking into the movie scene. this movie stunk with a capitol STUNK! But the only good thing was that he looked so cute in it, but i'm sorry Jamie sweetie, i could not look at it all the way. i took it out of my DVD player in the middle of it! i just could not take it anymore! EEEWWWWUUU!

DVD Review: That one bad movie on their acting resume
Summary: 1 Stars

Every actor has that one bad movie on their resume. Held up is that movie for Jamie Foxx and Nia Long. When the credits started to run I was so relieved because I did not like this movie. I did not laugh, and it took all my self control not to open my DVD player, take this movie and toss it like a Frisbee!!!

Michael's (Jamie Foxx) girlfriend finds out he spend their money they were saving for a house on the car they are riding in she gets angry and leaves him in the middle of now where in Nevada. Michael's cherished car is then stolen while he is in a connivance store, and then the very story is held up by some bumbling crooks. All Michael wants is to get his car back and find his way to the airport to make up with his girlfriend and beg her forgiveness. Instead he is trying to negotiate with the backwards law enforcement and the crook to get out unscathed. I really wanted to like this movie being that I'm such a huge fan of Jamie and Nia's, I even like Jake Busey, but this movie was so pathetic, there was nothing I enjoyed more then returning this movie to the rental place.

Nia's talents were really wasted in this film. She is in the very beginning, and then mostly in the end. I don't care how much you want to get away from your man when you are angry, I do not know a single sister who would get on the back of a pick up truck with a bunch of red necks in the middle of nowhere!!! The jokes were not funny. Do yourself a favor and pass on this movie.

Description of Held Up

In Held Up, a romantic trip turns sour when Rachel (Nia Long) learns that Michael (Jamie Foxx) used the down payment for their future home to buy a classic car. Disgusted, she leaves him at a roadside gas station in the middle of the Nevada desert. Soon the car is stolen, thieves descend to rob the place, and the untimely arrival of the police creates a hostage situation with Michael in the middle. The circumstances want to cascade into mounting absurdity, but the ending doesn't quite provide a strong capper. Still, getting there is entertaining. Foxx is engaging, and the supporting cast--including Julie Hagerty, John Collum, Barry Corbin, and Jake Busey--create a colorful collection of locals. --Bret Fetzer
