DVD Reviews of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Volume OneDVD Review: The show is great, but the first disc is still damaged. Summary: 1 StarsI love the show very much. But on the first disc, the 4th episode is missing about 3 minutes.
I tried to get a replacement for this disc, which turned out to be an endless story. Mailing to bci only helps to get another e-mail address of their authering house. This mail address autoresponses some out-of-date infos and that's all. I'm now waiting for 2 months and there is still no replacement. (still pending)
Normally I would give 5 stars, but according to the damaged disc, this set is worthless.
But thumbs up for amazon. They tried to help by sending another, but still faulty disc set and refunded the costs for me in the end. But to be honest, I prefer an error free set and to reject the refund.
DVD Review: Great dvd Summary: 4 StarsThis cartoon is a great revamp of the classic he man cartoons. The best thing about this version of he man is that we actually see Adam being told why he needs to become he man and what is so special about castle grayskull. Some Masters and villians have origin stories which to my knowledge has never been done before. All in all this is a great cartoon series.
DVD Review: The best cartoon ever made! Summary: 5 StarsA big fan of the whole series. You can't go wrong with this one, besides you own one you gotta own them all.
DVD Review: I could not believe me eyes Summary: 4 StarsFirst, 4 stars because of the problem in disc 1 (courage of adam), that you have to ask for a replacement (visit he-man.org or scroll down to the review that has the address for the new disc). I got the replacement disc, extra cards so it was a plus.
I got to see only a few episodes of season 1 on cartoon network latin america, some how something was missing. I watched a few but disliked it, as a result I stopped watching alltogether.
When this set came out, a voice in the back of my head told me to get it. Trust me I am a fan. I got the original four DVD sets, plus POP 3 sets, I do not care for the new adventures series when the price drops really low I may get both sets. With all this in mind, I got this volumen and was HOOKED.
The stories are EXCELLENT, they catered to today's audience but the essence of the original series is there. The first three episodes chronicle how adam gets the sword, never done before. In the original, we knew he got it on his 18th B-Bay.
The re concept of the characters is algo GREAT. You see now a clear difference between Adam and He-Man, something you did not see in the original.
The quality is OUTSTANDING... I had the pleasure to see it on my brand new plasma, and it was an experience out of this world.
I think that watching it on a regular TV, spanish track killed the mood all those years ago. Now I am back, and Recommend this to all of you.
Get Volume 1 and 2 together and be ready to HAVE THE POWER.
DVD Review: Episode Error? Summary: 2 StarsOne thing I have noticed is in the episode "Courage of Adam" on Disc 1, at about the 15 min mark there seems to be an entire section the episode missing.
The episode shows Cringer trying to give Adam, who was imprisoned, his sword back then he gets chanced away, and the episode fades away and the next scene shows the Masters and Adam outside and free. It never showed the Master's arriving and Adam escaping. At first I thought it to be from another episode but Cringer was still wearing the harness to carry Adam's sword.
I am not sure if this was an editing error or a bad copy on a disc. For now I am throwing it up to an editing error, hence the reason for the low score. They should have put more car into making sure everything gets on the disc.
Besides the little issue with that episode, this series I enjoy, and I like it a lot.
**EDITED TO CORRECT A TYPO, I meant to say section (read the comment) but I said second.
Description of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - Volume OneThis was a revival of the classic 80's cartoon He-man and the Masters of the Universe for the modern age it focused on the early adventures of Prince Adam who having just become Eternia's most powerful guardian He-Man had to learn how to handle his new powers and lead his allies into battle against the evil Skeletor. With the aid of his own Evil Warrior henchmen Skeletor schemes to blanket Eternia in chaos and rule over the planet in dominion. Only He-Man guided and advised by the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull stands in his way. With the aid of his trusted friends and Masters he vows to end Skeletor's evil and the other evils that plague Eternia. The battle is joined as Good and Evil collide in a fight for Eternia's fate! This unique take on the retro fan favorite delighted and entertained the children of this decade as it did to those living in the 80's.Enclosed are the first 13 episodes from the award-winning series.Special Features:Each episode includes the original morals segments (never seen on Cartoon Network) World of He-Man DocumentaryHe-Man? Adam lost his Dutch boy hair cut and his body looked even more overdeveloped. The premise remained the unchanged: With the aid of the enchanted Sword of Power, Adam, the slacker-dude Prince of Eternia, becomes He-Man, the heroic defender of the realm against the evil machinations of Skeletor and his minions. Like Superman, Adam has to keep his alter-identity secret. But instead of spunky newswoman Lois Lane, his love interest is Teela, who insults and belittles him. From Snake Mountain, Skeletor hatches schemes to conquer Eternia, only to be thwarted by He-Man, with some help from Teela, Man-at-Arms, et al. With the possible exception of Evil-Lyn, Skeletor's henchmen are such doofuses, they don't feel like much of a threat. The battle between good against evil is so simplistic, it makes Dragon Ball look nuanced. The filmmakers try to capture some of the excitement of anime fantasy-adventures, but they pull their punches--literally and figuratively. Although the combatants twirl swords and pole arms like martial artists, no blood is shed and no one gets seriously injured. He-Man only uses his Sword of Power to deflect energy blasts: he slugs bad guys and monsters. The disc of extras includes video commentaries and animatics for three episodes, audio commentaries on five episodes and an extensive image gallery. (Rated TV Y7: violence) --Charles Solomon
