We checked out this dvd from the library because we weren't sure if it was worth buying. My husband and I could not find a Lamaze class that was good for his work schedule so this really was the next best thing. This is our first baby and we are trying to prepare as much as possible for a natural delivery. We have been watching it in 20 min segments and practicing the techniques often. I was completely amazed how much pain you can really block out just by focusing on breathing. They have a time when they have your husband squeeze your leg really hard in a tapered off manner like a contraction while you breath. I couldn't believe when he did it when I wasn't focused it hurt so bad but not when I was doing the techniques. At first the video is hard to watch because it is 80's style for sure but the information is wonderful. It is all at a good pace just don't try and do the whole thing at once. We were both a little apprehensive about doing a dvd instead of the class but the dvd is in a class setting and kind of feels like you are there because you participate when they do. Which I really like because I embarrass easily as well, so it is nice doing it in the comfort of your own home. I believe this dvd is a wonderful alternative and cheaper way to go if you can't find a class. I know the classes in our area are in 2 1/2 sessions only for 2 days which I feel is very short for as much information as you need to deal with the incredible pain of child birth. At least with the dvd you can go back and watch any parts you may have forgotten or just don't feel you picked up very well. I believe this would also be a great addition to taking a class as well just so you have some review.

While this tape was clearly shot in the 1980s (the hair styles and fashions are amusingly outdated), it does have new computer-generated diagrams, and the medical information seems up to date.
