This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. If you like character-driven stories filled with the gamut of human emotions, you will love this movie. As in all English dramas, every character is played by incredible actors, from the leads to the smallest bit parts. I loved this DVD. John Thaw was a great actor, both in film and on television. I loved his Inspector Morse series but he was also well known for many other performances. It's a great shame that he is gone.DVD Review: Wonderful!

I first saw the movie on PBS. I absolutely loved it and bought the DVD. Mine has very good quality and, watching it the second time, I liked it even better. Then I bought the book- yes, the book is even better, but the movie captures the story and the characters wonderfully. The actors are also great. It is a emotionally strong and you may have to cry a bit. Not for young children. I highly recommend it.
Description of Goodnight Mister Tom
John Thaw stars in this touching adaptation of Michelle Magorian's award-winning novel, Goodnight Mister Tom.Tom Oakley (John Thaw) is a cantankerous old man who, at the start of World War II, finds his life irrevocably changed. Without warning, little Willie Beech (Nick Robinson) is evacuated from London and sent to live with Tom in a small village. Willie is a quiet, sad child with a disturbing past, but Tom patiently takes on the job of improving Willie's reading and writing abilities and fosters his natural talent for drawing. Through Tom's friendship and attention, Willie's anxieties are smoothed away and a strong bond develops between this unlikely pair.
However, just as Willie celebrates his tenth birthday, his mother summons him back to the unexpected terrors of Blitz-torn London. Aware of the nightmare that awaits the boy, Tom is forced to act to save the child... and has to fight to keep him.
