DVD Review: Out-f****ng-standing giant-rat movie

Bias alert: I used to earn my living working with rodents and I have a special affection for this flick. Like the other reviewer I really think it's the culmination of the genre, the ultimate giant-rats flick which should be taught in film schools and according to which others will be judged one day. It does for HGWells what REANIMATOR did for HPLovecraft--sets it in a modern, not-unrealistic-looking university, updates the science and politics a bit, adds sex, and makes it gory. Overwhelmingly, hilariously, gory.
Another reviewer said the original FotGs was better, but in this one, a horny kid about to score gets his genitals bitten off. And there's a synchro-swim scene which is a masterpiece from any point of view. If you need to leave the couch at the beginning of that scene, be sure to pause it. (That's not really a spoiler because like in Greek Tragedy there's a sense of inevitability from the beginning. You know what's coming.)
Fans of "Friday the 13th, the Series" (in other words, beautiful people with good taste) will recognize several Canadian villians in the cast, particularly the great Colin Fox, who played three villians including the one who actually killed Micki. He also played Nero Wolfe's chef.

I cannot recommend this film enough to fans of B-horror. There's lots of gore, violence, slapstick humor, and it's like watching a how-to guide of making movies about giant rodents. I thought it was alot better than the first one. Plus it's Canadian, and their horror movies are usually better than the average hollywood low budget programming. If you study the camera angles you can see how trick photography made the rats look enormous. The scene with the giant 5 year old kid was the absolute best though. If you want to see a little more of the film before you get this product just see if you can find the trailer on youtube. I saw the preview for this movie on an old vhs tape of a different movie and I immediately had to watch it!DVD Review: Gnaw - Food of the Gods, Part 2

Great idea (large rats eat people on a college campus), bad execution (the microphone is visible three times in the first 30 minutes), still compared to some of the other rat turds floating around out there FotG2 is a classic. RATS - NIGHT OF TERROR, THE RATS (2002) and KILLER RATS are some of the stinkier ones I've sat through recently. RATS (2002) did feature Kim Poirier topless briefly, so that was nice.
If you've seen the original FOOD OF THE GODS or any other movies with the similar theme (EMPIRE OF THE ANTS, ALLIGATOR, NIGHT OF THE LEPUS) then you know what to expect...and that's exactly what you get.
The scene with the white rat was sad though. I would have gone to jail for beating that cop's ass.
