DVD Review: Great for my class!
Summary: 5 Stars
Showed this video in my 10th grade English class as a supplemental for Cry, the Beloved Country. It was a useful video for the students as they were interested in seeing what So. Africa looks like today. The narration is upbeat and perfect for students. Justine and Sami are very enthusiastic and I really think they made a big difference for my students. There was only one section I skipped - the visit to a native tribe (the native women were topless - their cultural custom. I did not find this distasteful at all, I just wanted to keep my immature boys focused! The Soweto information appears at the very end - so trying to select it in the index chart is not possible. The information on the Apartheid Museum is wonderful. I will be using this video for years to come.

Description of Globe Trekker: South Africa
South Africa is said to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Its ever-changing and breathtaking scenery takes you from the awe inspiring Drakensberg Mountains to the grasslands of Kruger National Park and of course the fantastic beaches. The dark cloud of Apartaid held back tourism for understandable reason, but since its breakdown in 1994, travelers have returned to experience the magic of this remarkable land. Travelers Sami Sabiti and Justine Shapiro return to South Africa to see how much the rainbow nation has changed in the decade since Apartaid. Starting in the beautiful Cape Town they then travel to Robben Island to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. After a stop in Kimberley, it's on to the tribal lands of Lompopo for Sami whilst Justine heads east to Afrikaner Oudtshoorn and on to Durban, before meeting the wildlife of Kruger National Park. They end their journey in Johannesburg.
