DVD Reviews of Gia (Unrated Edition)DVD Review: Angelina isn't Just a Pretty Face Summary: 3 Stars
I have to give this an "A" for the acting...especially Angelina. As for the movie's story...well...not so much impressed with that. Thought they used the story to show more "skin"...so to speak. Personally thought the story line was hyped..but I have "no" real insight into this sort of world.
The acting was superb...just didn't care for the story so this didn't get a 5 star in my mind's eye.
DVD Review: Gia Summary: 4 StarsI really like this movie , well actually i like anything that has Angelina Jolie in it.
DVD Review: angelina joie at her sexiest! Summary: 5 StarsThis is hand down the very best (and sexiest) performance by Angelina Jolie. Even thought the life of Gia was very tragic, she does a great job of portraying her and her complicated life. You can't help but be inspired by her raw talent.
Over the years Angelina has had many dramatic (and excellent) roies. However, none of them as as good as what she brought to this film.
DVD Review: GIA Summary: 5 StarsThis is another favorite of mine about model Gia Carangi. Angelina Jolie does a really good job portraying her in this movie. Very realistic, from what I've read. Worth seeing!
DVD Review: Gia Summary: 5 Stars I had never heard about this movie until I caught the last hour of it on tv. one Saturday evening late. I had missed alot of it and the ending got cut off due to time and I knew I had to see the entire movie, so I ordered it from Amazon. I received it within a week and watched it that night. It is a sad story but is so well written and acted that it makes it a great movie. Angelina Jolie plays Gia's character and does an amazing job portraying her. Except for the very beginning, I felt as though I was watching Gia rather than Angelina Jolie. I lent it to my sister who watched it several times and loved it and she too had never heard of the movie. I would highly reccommend it to any adult with the caveat that it is not an uplifting movie, but very real and is about a model's life.
Description of Gia (Unrated Edition)It's late 70's New York. Studio 54 designer jeans drugs and disco. This is the outrageous breathtaking story of the first fashion super-model - her rise to the top and her fall caught up in a whirlwind of drugs sex and celebrity.Running Time: 126 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre:?DRAMA UPC:?026359154027 There's a reason why Cindy Crawford was dubbed "Baby Gia" when she first hit the modeling scene. Indeed, Crawford, now the world's best-known supermodel, greatly resembled model Gia Carangi, who went from high school to the cover of British Vogue in less than two years. Carangi appeared on many more covers of Vogue (French, British, Italian, and American) and Cosmopolitan before dying of complications from AIDs (she was an IV heroin user) in 1986. Now most people recognize Carangi's name from this powerful HBO film that stars Golden Globe-winner Angelina Jolie, who comes by her talent honestly. Jolie is the daughter of veteran actor Jon Voight, and her own training as a model serves her well--she has the moves. Throughout, she's heartbreaking--as no doubt the real Carangi was--effective, and stunning. With good source material (Stephen Fried's A Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia), Jolie's stunning performance, and strong directing by Michael Cristofer, the movie goes beyond the merely sensational. The script was cowritten by Cristofer and novelist Jay McInerney, whose Bright Lights, Big City covers similar territory. As a cautionary tale, Gia works. But to watch Jolie in her character's tragic self-destruction is utterly compelling. --N.F. Mendoza
