DVD Review: Wonderful Movie

I remember watching this movie when i was younger and i really enjoyed it. It has wonderful singing from judy garland and robert goulet. I highly recommend this wonderful and sweet feline movie for the whole family.DVD Review: A hidden gem!

I must admit I hadn't ever heard of this movie before I was randomly looking at films starring Judy Garland. The title sounded right up my alley (no pun intended!) and at $5 I couldn't resist. For a spontaneous buy, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised! It isn't the greatest animation film I've seen, but it's pretty good. The music is adorable, and the storyline is fun. There's some educational value as well, such as a 5 minute mini bio of famous painters and a warning about sex trafficking in Paris lol.
Overall I'd say that if you're tired of your kids watching Disney classics over and over and over, try throwing this film their way. It might not be a favorite, but it's culturally nice and if nothing else it'll be a way to teach them the original definition of the word "gay". Then of course, even if you don't have kids, any Judy Garland fan simply must watch it to hear her lovely voice.

I love the animation in this video. The DVD colors are brilliant and in widescreen. I have also gone out and purchased the soundtrack which was spectacular. Enjoy :-)

When I was a kid, my grandmother gave me a copy of this movie on videotape. She wrote "Musette" on the cover; it was in the 90ties so I had no idea this was a movie from the 60ties, I absolutely loved it. One day, my mother accidently taped over it and I was crying the whole day. My mother tried to get a new copy for me but nobody knew the movie "Musette". it wasn't until recenlty I discovered the real name of the movie "Gay purr-ee" thanks to the world wide web. Thanks to Amazon I could finally buy it and relive all those precious memories...I am very happy that I found this after 15 years!!
I still love every minute of the movie and later I will surely show it to my kids

DVD Review: Wonderful classic

This theatrical length animated classic has everything. Great voice cast, music and songs. The animation style reflects the Warner Brothers studio's short cartoons and has the look and feel of Chuck Jones' influence. Most importantly, it's funny when it needs to be. I've seen this many times over the last 40 years and it's still funny. Especially the cat villain Meowrice, voiced by Paul Frees and Hermione Gingold as the cat madam. Judy Garland's performance is bright and perky, her singing voice still vibrant. Besides a trip down memory lane, this is a great family film suitable for the young, and young at heart.
My only complaint is that the movie was produced full frame, but the DVD is "matted" to match the theatrical aspect ratio. This has aired countless times full frame on tv, and that's how everyone is used to seeing it. There's no option to view the DVD full frame, but it's a small sacrifice considering it's such a beautiful copy of the film.
Highly recommended!

Magnificent. That's the voice of Judy Garland. Magnifique. That's Gay Purr-ee, a charming animated musical featuring the great Garland in one of her final roles. She's the singing and speaking voice of Mewsette, a French country cat who runs off to Paris during the Gay '90s. Director: Abe LevitowThis little gem has the pedigree of a purebred Persian: it features voices of no less than Judy Garland and Robert Goulet, the original songs of Wizard of Oz composers Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, and the writing talents of animation giant Chuck Jones. Garland gives life to our young heroine, Mewsette, a naive country kitty who runs off to seek the bright lights of Gay '90s Paris; Goulet is her devoted country bumpkin beau, Jaune-Tom, who sets off to find her (accompanied by the scrappy kitten Robespierre). While in Paris, Mewsette falls prey to the dastardly yellow-eyed Meowrice, and his compatriot, Madame Rubens-Chatte (played with hilarious swagger by Hermione Gingold), who runs a cathouse of ill repute off the Champs ?lys?es. The story is slim, itself a bit of an homage to Oz: country girl longs to spread her wings, leaves home, and has many adventures, only to discover that there's no place like home. But the stylized look of the film is breathtaking--the French countryside looks like miles and miles of Vincent Van Gogh's sensual Arles--and Garland and Goulet are in fine voice.
