DVD Review: Not up to his usual standard

Just 2 years earlier Franco's solo Tokyo concert is totally spectacular. The marvel is still near his zenith. But here, while he sings well, he's just not as exciting. Tebaldi had long since had steely off key high notes and was short of breath. So I didn't expect much from her. Also, the choice of selections might be part of the problem. I heard both of them in '65 in Chenier and Corelli several times, always incredible. Even then, Tebaldi was a bit short on breath, and her high notes curdled cream.
I rarely watch this one, but have created new opera fanatics with Corelli's 71 solo Tokyo concert. The encores alone drive the audience wild. Japanese acting like Italians.....
