DVD Reviews of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Widescreen)DVD Review: Romantic Comedy with Hilarious and Likeable Characters Summary: 4 StarsForgetting Sarah Marshall is another successful comedy in a long line of successful comedies produced by Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express). Screenwriter Nicholas Stoller directs his first film while actor Jason Segal writes. Segal of course also plays the film's main protagonist, Peter Bretter, a composer for a crime scene investigation television drama that stars his girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). Sarah breaks up with Peter and the story begins. Segal has been around for a while on television (Freaks and Geeks, How I Met Your Mother) while also appearing in smaller roles for films (SLC Punk, Knocked Up). It is nice to see him get a feature role in a huge comedy while at the same time delivering a top-notch comedy screenplay. His talents are undeniable.
As the film goes on after Sarah breaks up with Peter, we are introduced to various characters that are both interesting and very funny. British rock star Aldous Snow is played by Russell Brand, who is probably the film's highlight for me, although Peter's married step-brother and his wife, played by Bill Hader and Liz Cackowski, are great as well. Mila Kunis stars as Peter's potential rebound girlfriend after his breakup with Sarah. All of these characters and many more conveniently and unwittingly congregate in the same vacation spot in Hawaii shortly after the break-up between Peter and Sarah.
Although I would totally work towards staying with Sarah myself, the film does a great job in making us empathize with the vulnerable and likeable character of Peter Bretter. I mean the guy is making a rock opera with puppets about Dracula. That is his passion. This is an excellent comedy with great characters and a deep cast. I definitely recommend it.
DVD Review: we were surprised Summary: 5 StarsMy wife and I took a chance on this and rented it when we couldn't find anything else. We haven't seen any other Apatow films -- they all looked a little too adolescent for our tastes. We had read some good reviews of this, though, so we gave it a shot. It was a real surprise -- very clever, well-written, and genuinely funny. Great cast, and all give excellent performances. Lots of real talent went into this. A very enjoyable movie.
DVD Review: loved it! Summary: 5 StarsI loved this movies so much i saw it 3 times in the theater and then i got it on blue ray. it is even better on blue ray you get all the stuff you missed in the theater. i give this movie 5 stars.
DVD Review: Another great flick from the Apatow crew Summary: 5 StarsOf all of the Judd Apatow produced movies, i think this is my favorite. And the dvd leaves nothing to be desired.
DVD Review: awesome... Summary: 4 StarsI was completely amazed I got this on the day it came out when I pre-ordered it and was very happy about it, but had one problem was that the security sticker that holds the movie together, the top one that has the title on it, had covered the display case and dvd cover so thus when I was removing it it had ripped a little, some of my DVD's have recently done that and it's getting a bit annoying...
Description of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Widescreen)Peter (Jason Segel) is a struggling musician who finds his world turned upside down when his TV celebrity girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), dumps him for a tragically hip rock star. It's the hysterically funny look at how far one man will go to forget a girl - and all the fun he finds along the way! Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult re! lationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley
