DVD Review: Volume 6 and 7 are his best works as he puts it all together in application what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus

Ray does an outstanding Job and is a gifted teacher as he takes you through the old testament in Volumes 1 and 2 then moves to the times of Jesus in volumes 3 and 4 Then starts on the Early church in volume 5
Then he brings down to you in what does it mean to be a disciple or what is a disciple?
If you are series about your walk as a Christian you will not want to miss any of his volumes but especially the last two which I believe is his best work. I would recommend you go through all 7 of them in order.
Let me ask you are you a disciple of Jesus? If so what does that mean to you? Now how do you think Jesus sees the term disciple?
We are commanded to go out and make disciples
Matthew 28:
28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
28:20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
After going through this volume and the next you realize how far short we fall in Discipleship as a lot of Christians Just dabble in their walk as Christians
You will learn that he chose us
and that there are three basic traits or building blocks to be a Disciple
1. A passion to be just like the rabbi (Jesus)
2. A passion to know the Text (Bible)
3. A sense of community with people who have those same passions

I am a high school Bible teacher. I've taught Bible in Christian high schools in both West Africa and Central America. Ray Vander Laan's series "Faith Lessons" is required viewing for anyone who is serious about studying the Bible in it's geographical, historical, cultural, and religious contexts. I have seen every video on every DVD from vol. 1 through vol. 7 multiple times and I believe that vols. 6 and 7 represent some of Mr. Vanderlan's best work yet. His faith lesson on The Very Words of God (and the oracle of Apollo) is especially powerful and convicting. I highly and enthusiastically recommend each and every volume of this series. Those who know me best will testify that I am a HUGE Ray Vander Laan fan and have loved the first 5 Volumes in the 'That The World May Know' series. When Volume 5, The Early Church, came out, it was an awesome extension of the original 4 volumes. Thus, when I heard that a volume 6 and 7 were coming, I could not have been more excited. After receiving them for my birthday last week, I could not have been more disappointed. Instead of taking the series to another level or maintaining a status quo, these volumes are sorely lacking. They are over-produced, the background music overbearing in many instances and frankly weak in content and lacking in substance.
I believe the Zondervan must have believed that there was such a demand for Vander Laan material that they just slapped something together and figured people would buy it regardless. I've not checked the credits to see who the producer was, but I can't believe this is the work of Bob Garner who so well produced the first 5 volumes.
I expect more and Zondervan should deliver more. My recommendation is keep your money in your pocket and don't spend it on this!
