DVD Reviews of Event Horizon [Region 2]DVD Review: Thriller of an event. Summary: 5 StarsEvent Horizon is a tightly constructed science fiction movie. It doesn't have all of the star power one would want or all the special effects, but it has a tight almost seamless storyline. The story is what propels this movie - it doesn't lack for thrills or action where it is required. This one is for all fans of great movie science fiction.
DVD Review: An overlooked sci-fi thrill-ride! Summary: 5 Stars
In the far future, somewhere in space a rescue squad (Lawrence Fishburne, Sam Neil, Joely Richardson, Katleen Quinland, Sean Pertwee, Richard T. Jones, and Jack Noseworthy) investigates a much 7-year old abandoned spacecraft called "Event Horizon", they discover that the spaceship was used to open up a portal to a terrifying hellish dimension that curses the ship that brings an unspeakable horror.
An excellent mix of Sci-fi and supernatural horror mix up in this electrifying film that has elements of H.P. Lovecraft. The film incorporates the idea of using the old haunted house movie cliches up with futuristic themes to it, thus Paul WS Anderson has conjured up an imaginative and disturbing shocker that still has and to this day a cult following. It succeeds in giving us a gothic and atmospheric yet gory as hell movie that does something different in the Sci-fi horror genre.
This 2-Disc DVD set has excellent picture and quality sound with great extras like audio commentary, a five-part documentary on the making of this cult classic, "The Point of No Return" Featurette, Trailers, Deleted scene and secrets with optinonal commentary.

DVD Review: Great movie. But why isn't this being released on Blu-Ray?? Summary: 3 StarsThe title says it all. This is one of the best Sci-Fi/Horror flicks ever. So why then is this version being released instead of Blu-Ray???
DVD Review: Actual Specs Summary: 4 StarsHey Gang,
Here is an update on the Event Horizon Special Edition DVD. It is in a 2.35 aspect ratio. It includes at 5.1 Dolby Digital track as well as a DTS 6.0 track(Yeah!!!) The second disc includes outtakes, an storyboard version with director's commentary of an alternate beginning & ending. The outtakes are very interesting as well as Paul's commentary on what the film should have been. Hope this helps..
DVD Review: Metaphysica nonsense Summary: 1 StarsWhat is the point of wasting all that money in good special effects if the story really sucks?
People in Hollywood have no imagination whatsoever anymore. If a movie has no guts and blood spread all over the screen it is not considered a movie!
What is the point? There are thousands of good scifi stories that are begging for a movie adaptation and all they come up with is this pseudo-metaphysical nonsense. It is unbelievable how "anti-sifci" this piece of garbage is.
To make things short, someone builds a spaceship that can fly "faster" than light and the result of its first trip is that it visists a sort of hell, its crew members go crazy and start eating each other.
Well, this is a case of cabin fever in outer space. Deja-vu anyone? Pretty dumb.
How can anybody consider this gore feast entertaining?
Stay away from it.
Description of Event Horizon [Region 2]Lawrence Fishburne and Sam Neill head up a strong cast as the reluctant leaders of a rescue mission sent to find out just what in the hell (literally) happened to the crew of a long-vanished experimental spacecraft in this dark and thundering descent of a horror film. Although this extremely stylish haunted spaceship movie may be guilty of ripping off half a dozen better films (including Don't Look Now, Hellraiser, and especially Andrei Tarkovsky's great Solaris), it's difficult to deny the gothic razorblade effectiveness of the end result. Not a "fun" film by any stretch of the imagination, but a thrillingly ruthless shocker that may leave more susceptible viewers in need of a long shower and a high-voltage night-light. For the full effect, watch it with all the lights off and the volume cranked up to 11. --Andrew Wright
