DVD Reviews of Dunstan Baby Language -- Learn the universal language of newborn babiesDVD Review: Great concept, too bad none of it was true for us. Summary: 1 StarsWe watched the dvds and were really excited to be able to "read" our little one's cries, but when we couldn't recognize any, we watched it again and still at almost 10 months, none of them look or sound anything like the mentioned noises. you get to know your kids and anticipate when they might need something based on a schedule, not based on their cry sounds.
It might work for some, just not for us.
DVD Review: Very good, but very overpriced Summary: 4 StarsMy husband and I watched this together yesterday, and although we have already observed these cries with our 2 week old (in fact, my husband identified the "neh" cry on his own before we even watched it) we though it was laughable that the teaching of 5 words were broken up into 2 DVDs. I received this as a gift, and I was SHOCKED to see that it cost $35.00. Patricia Dunstan is making a killing on this DVD!
DVD Review: Making Life With a Newborn Easier Summary: 5 StarsAs first time parents my spouse and I invested in several different DVD and book resources in the months leading up to our son's birth. The Dunstan Baby Language DVD turned out to be invaluable. Along with "What Babies Say Before they Can Talk" (body language), it has helped me understand my baby---and even friends' babies--- as I never would've guessed. Even in the hospital I was already able to cue into my son's cries. It has saved us many hours of frustration; division of labor caring for our precious little one at night is easier too ("oh, that's a neh, mommy's turn; that's heh, daddy gets to change the diaper!"). Every new parent should give the Dunstan method a try!
DVD Review: Not Very Useful Summary: 1 StarsThis product is proof that parents will spend anything on even the glimmer of hope that they can make their baby happier and maybe get a bit more sleep at 3 AM. But it is only a glimmer of hope. Fortunately, the real solution isn't much harder and it is a whole lot less money than the price of this.
Ok, I'll admit there is some similarities to the sounds my baby makes but only some. As a parent, you'll quickly learn the signs that your baby needs to be burped, has gas, is hungry, or is uncomfortable.
How? By watching your baby. It really is that simple, but it isn't quite as simple as this product makes it out to be.
Save your money and spend a couple bucks on a paper journal and keep track of the sounds and facial expressions your baby makes. And what you did to make her stop crying.
DVD Review: Essential Parenting Education - It Really Works Summary: 5 StarsDunstan baby language comes highly recommended by a doctor lawyer couple currently residing in Oklahoma. We were able to "communicate" with our baby from day one on thanks to recognition of the reflex based sounds he made that are universal to all babies. He really did say "nay" when he was hungry, and he used the uncomfortable and tired sounds as well.
I visited a BabiesRUs store and heard a baby say "nay" and then start to wail and cry saying "NAY" after its mother ignored the initial request for a bottle. She looked at me and apologized and said she thought her baby needed to be changed. I told her that her baby was saying "nay" and that when she heard him say that, she could be assured that he was hungry. She said it wasn't meal time and that her baby probably wouldn't eat just then, but sure enough, he immediately did some desperate looking rooting actions and then latched onto that bottle. The woman did look at me like I was nuts, and I told her to order Dunstan Baby Language. If she didn't do it, well...infancy is going to be tough on that mother and the baby.
It was very bonding to be able to understand his basic needs instead of treating my baby like a check list to run down in an attempt to figure out what he was needing. As a result of this program, our baby didn't have to cry in frustration much (an experience that harms bonding and emotional development), and he is a very happy understood very social 9 month old now.
Description of Dunstan Baby Language -- Learn the universal language of newborn babiesAs announced in an exclusive interview on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Australian mother Priscilla Dunstan has the world talking with the discovery of the secret language of babies. This breakthrough in infant care is the result of one mother's intuition that began nearly a decade of investigation and international research. The Dunstan Baby Language DVD teaches parents the 5 cries all newborns use to communicate their everyday needs from day 1. You will know when your baby is hungry, tired, needs burping, has lower wind or is simply uncomfortable. By learning this System parents are able to settle their baby faster, resulting in happier babies who sleep longer and cry less - something every new parent would wish for.
