DVD Reviews of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman - The Movies (The Movie aka Revelations / The Heart Within)DVD Review: Could Be So Much Better.... Summary: 3 StarsIf you're as big a fan of DQMW as I am, then you'll end up having to get and watch these movies. And they are by no means a complete loss! The actors do a great job with what they're given, and the scenery is beautiful, and we get to watch many of our favorite characters for about four hours.
So why only 3 stars? Not as good as the series, that's why.
The first movie (Revolutions) doesn't feel like Dr. Quinn--it's much more gritty western. On the positive side, we get to see some of the townsfolk. When young Katie is kidnapped, Jake, Horace, Robert E., and Cloud Dancing join Sully, Dr. Mike, and Brian on the rescue party. On the downside, we see nothing of Matthew or Hank, and the music isn't at all the same as the Dr. Quinn series, and some continuity elements just don't line up. Where's Jake's wife, Teresa (and the children we hoped they'd have?) What about the baby Grace & Robert E. were expecting by the end of the series? If you like your DQMW for action/adventure, you'll probably like this, but if you like your characters deeply explored, it will leave you wanting.
The second movie (The Heart Within, on the positive side, better uses the characters and remembers the histories, with only a few major glitches. The music is back, as is Beth Sullivan as a writer, all of which are good things. On the downside, we see NOTHING of the townsfolk, as the entirety of the action is in Boston. And those glitches? Andrew's parents, whom we learned in the last episode of the series were dead, are alive and well with no mention of the discrepancy and, again, Matthew is wholly missing. The ending bothered me too, so here comes the spoiler warning:
SPOILER: By the end of the movie, Colleen, Andrew, and Brian are all settled in Boston. The final shot is of Dr. Mike in the train going back to Colorado, with Sully and Katie, a tear trickling down her cheek. Seriously? Why couldn't Brian and the Drs. Cook get jobs at least in Denver, where they would also be needed?
DVD Review: PLEASE bring back Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman Summary: 5 StarsThe series is one of my favorite on TV and the movies are wonderful too. It's true the movies still leave some unanswered questions which is why I want people to start protesting one more final movie to tie up those loose ends. Maybe Dr. Quinn and Sully are older and proud grandparents and the movie could focus on the life of Colleen and Dr. Quinn's legacy while remembering to conclude on the other notable characters, Matthew, Brian, Katie, Grace, Robert E., The Reverend, Hank, Dorothy, Cloud Dancing and the others.
Please ONE more movie is what the fans want!!!!!!!
DVD Review: WE3 LOVE IT Summary: 5 StarsI WAS WORKING AT THE TIME THIS WAS OUT IT IS A BLESSING TO WATCH AT THIS TIME, AND SOMETHING THAT MY HUSBAND AND I AND FRIENDS CAN SHARE, I LOVE THE WAY IT IS PACKAGED, LIKE A ALBUMN , WE WILL NEED TO FIND A WAY TO SHARE THEM
DVD Review: Great Ending to Terrific 6 Seasons Summary: 5 StarsThe movies are a continuation of where the series left off, only the players are more seasoned and the parts fit them comfortably and they assume them as if no time had passed.
Sully as handsome and dignified as ever. Michaela is sharp, beautiful and committed to her family.
The players are returning characters from the series and they are so fantastically accurate and they actually look the same but better.
Colleen has moved on and Brian is a grown man. Even Jake, Grace, Miss Dorothy, Loren, Robert E, Cloud Dancing and Horace are like family that we have grown up with and missed while they were away and an sure glad they came back to see us.
I love these movies and appreciate them just as much today as I did when they first hit the screen.
DVD Review: Dr. Quinn Movies Summary: 3 StarsPackage was delivered in a timely fashion. Only complaint is the quality of the DVD, it has a grainy picture. Could be issues with the manufacturer.
