. . . will have a great time watching these DVDs. Both of these performers are fun to watch. Because they are having such a good time, they automatically make you happy. People who are sensitive to the nuances of their performing style will appreciate this. This movie is virtually a complete copy of Rock Around the Clock. It looked ordinary, the songs were quite boring- apart from the title track.
Did not really enjoy any of it - acting was poor - songs were poor - being
a copy of the rock movie I felt like I was watching the same movie but with poor preformances . Very disappointed.

I found Twist Around The Clock to be a mediocre film. The story is an exact copy of Rock around the clock. The supporting acts, again mediocre. The star is really Chubby Checker, whose performance of The Twist especially in the finale is awesome and I will emulate some of his actions the next time I Twist at a party! The same for "Don't knock the Twist", again Chubby is most entertaining. They fail to capture the brilliance of "Rock around the clock" where every act is a winner. DVD Review: This one's kind of a stinker....

There's some good songs but the dancing is embarrassing compared with the lindy hop in "Don't Knock The Rock"/"Rock Around The Clock" dvd's. Compare the dancing in "The Fly" number with the dancing in "Rip It Up" and you'll see what I mean.
To be fair, this set does have its moments; e.g., Dee Dee Sharp appears with Chubby Checker to sing "Slow Twistin'".
Description of Don't Knock the Twist / Twist Around the Clock
Twist Around The Clock and Don't Knock The Twist, both starring Chubby Checker and filmed in the early 1960s, when the Twist was the world's biggest dance craze, causing whole clubs to be built to accommodate the dance and its many frenzied fans. Both films feature a whole lot of twistin' combined with decent plots and Twist Around The Clock serves as a showcase for Dion and two of his hit songs, "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer."Along with the Twist dance craze in the early 1960s came Twist-themed movies, and this DVD release has two of the more memorable artifacts of the fad. Twist Around the Clock, out of 1961, finds an unemployed promoter recognizing the Twist's potential to make him a lot of money--if only he can figure out how to harness its popularity. Lightweight but enjoyable, Twist Around the Clock is a real treat when it gets down to business, which means performances by Twist king Chubby Checker, the Marcels, and especially Dion, whose great "Runaround Sue" and "The Wanderer" are featured. A sequel to Twist Around the Clock, Don't Knock the Twist is a formulaic yet completely fun story of preparations for a television show about the Twist. Romantic complications and other conflicts arise for various characters, but the presence of Checker, the Dovells, the Carroll Brothers, and Linda Scott are the real reason to immerse oneself in pure nostalgia. --Tom Keogh
