To those who grew up in the Los Angeles area in the 60's,70's,and 80's,we all remember those wonderful years when going to a Dodger game was the most exciting thing in town.....that is until the FOX group changed them for the worse!!! Gone are the days of the Dodger Franchise player (who was the last dodger still in their prime to rank up there on top with the other stars in baseball?). Gone are the days of the family-like atmosphere (Dodger crowds today are no different than the L.A. Raider crowds of the late 1980's/early 1990's). Gone are the days of the affordable ticket prices (of course,there is always the horrible pavilion and top deck sections). Gone are the days when we spent most of our young lives knowing Walter Alston and/or Tommy Lasorda as the only Los Angeles Dodger managers (can you believe in the short 10 years since Lasorda left,we have already seen 5 dodger managers come and go). And gone are the days of the O'Malley regime (did you know that according to the LA times,the only reason FOX purchase the team from Owner O'Malley was the prevent fellow rivals ESPN from getting tv rights to Dodgers games? A FOX spokesperson even said "our goal was achieved" when ESPN lost those rights). Fortunately for those fans who have witnessed the downfall of what was once one of the most respected teams in all of sports,we now have on DVD those wonderful memories of the many championship years. Those memories of when fans came before financial numbers. Those memories of when the only babies in the stadium were those in diapers crying,not the overpaid ones in the dugout. Those memories of when fan appreciation day was felt at every game,not just the final game of the season. This DVD looks back at each of every one of those championship seasons. The Ultiimate Chronicle of the Great Dodgers Tradition!From the moment they became a part of everyday life in Brooklyn, the Dodgers were something special. Night after night they battled, winning the hearts of fans both young and old. But then they would face the Yankees in the World Series, and "Dem Bums" would break those very same hearts. "Wait until next year" became the mantra in Brooklyn ? and following five gut-wrenching World Series losses to those Yankees, "next year" finally came in 1955 when the Dodgers became world champions.
Two seasons later, the team moved to Los Angeles, where in 1959 they again captured the title. The days of Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider and Jackie Robinson gave way to Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills and Don Drysdale ? and two more championships followed in 1963 and ?65. Fernandomania rocked Los Angeles in the early ?80s ? and both Valenzuela and Steve Garvey helped lead the Dodgers to still another title in ?81. Then came the magical season of 1988 when Orel Hershiser rewrote the record books ? and Kirk Gibson simply wrote a fairy tale.
These are the championship years.
