Blu-ray Review: So here's what annoyed me
Summary: 3 Stars

This series is beautiful and the action is superb and fluid. I enjoyed watching Dante's antics and his interaction with the other main characters (Trish and Lady, yay!). Even the little girl Patty wasn't as obnoxious as she could have been. My problem was with all the one-time throw-away plots and characters.

You don't care about them, you never see them again past their one episode, but that's what the majority of this show is - following the devil-related drama of insignificant people as Dante jumps from one mission to the next. I understand this is Dante's job, and I wouldn't have minded a few episodes of this (I even enjoyed some of them!), but it took so long for the real story to develop, I thought this was going to be more like a collection of short-stories than a cohesive whole.

Another thing, Dante is never in any danger (ALMOST never - I won't give away the ending)! I've played the games, I know he is nearly indestructible, but when there's never any doubt that he can humiliate the baddies, there's absolutely no tension!

I also would have liked to see some sort of development involving the main characters. This isn't a game with the player drumming their fingers through lengthy cut-scenes, this is a full-length show. I know, I know, the campy and over-the-top DMC franchise should be the last place to look for a significant story - BUT - if this series was only supposed to be about the beautiful action, then every episode wouldn't have been bogged down with the stories of forgettable, unimportant characters.

Dante is the one we care about! Would it have hurt for the show to be more about him? Or Trish! Or Lady! But no, our cute little devil-hunters are just along for the ride . . .
