DVD Reviews of Death at a FuneralDVD Review: very funny Summary: 5 StarsThis is one funny movie. Just when I thought I had seen everything, something new came up. I laughed just as much the second or third time I watched it.
DVD Review: Finally, a comedy to laugh Summary: 5 StarsThis is a very funny comedy. Fantastic, wonderful and it also has some serious parts. I really enjoyed! I wish I could find more comedies like this one. Highly recommended.
DVD Review: Death can Make you Laugh till you Cry Summary: 5 StarsIf you're apprehensive about this movie, I would banish that right away. This is something you could buy without a recommendation and it would instantly be one of the best comedies in your movie colllection. The cast is dynamite and the storyline is stomach aching funny.
DVD Review: Dark Comedy ~ Very Entertaining Summary: 5 StarsThis movie takes place at a Funeral. Hence the description, DARK COMEDY ~ If you are unable to find humor in this situation, then you will NOT like this movie. HOWEVER, if you realize that in every situation, humor can and does exist, then you will be in for a very enjoyable 91 minutes.
The parts are expertly played by a superb cast. The script is witty and smart and the story is very well presented. This movie was recomended to me, while at the same moment, someone else who watched it, told me it was terrible. So, to qualify my taste, these are Dark Comedies that I have enjoyed watching in the past: "Head Above Water" ~ "Death Becomes Her" ~ "Little Nicky" ~ "Daddy's Dying".
So, if you share my taste, you will want to watch this movie. And if you liked this movie, you'll probably enjoy the ones listed above... Have fun!
DVD Review: British humor at it's Best! Summary: 4 StarsThis possibly was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. If you like British humor, you will enjoy this.
The language is a little too strong, therefore I would not let the kids watch it. The story line at times is
predictable but there are just as many surprises along the way.
Description of Death at a FuneralImport only Blu-Ray pressing. Region All. German pressing, subtitled, Sterben f?r Anf?nger. Daniel is a decent young man, married to Jane, still living at his father's home. When his father dies, it is up to him to organize his funeral. On this painful morning, the suitable grave expression on his face, Daniel is ready to welcome his father's friends and relatives. But preserving the dignity inherent in such a circumstance will be a hard task. Particularly with an undertaker who botches his work, the return from the USA of his famous but selfish brother, his cousin's fianc? who has accidentally ingested drugs, the presence a moron who takes advantage of the sad event to win back the heart (or rather the body) of a woman who is about to marry another, of a handicapped old uncle who is also the most unbearable pain in the neck. To cap it all, Daniel notices the presence among the mourners of a mysterious dwarf nobody else seems to know Though it doesn't hit the same comic heights as Bowfinger, Death at a Funeral is a fun little romp. Granted, not all of the characters are meant to be humorous, like Daniel (Matthew Macfadyen, Pride & Prejudice) and his wife, Jane (Keeley Hawes, Tristram Shandy), straight-faced foils for the more over-the-top performers. After Daniel's father passes away, the couple offers to host the funeral, so all his relatives descend on the family abode, including Daniel's estranged brother, Robert (Rupert Graves, V for Vendetta). The mood is already tense when their cousin, Martha (Daisy Donovan), arrives with her nervous fianc?, Simon (Alan Tudyk, Serenity). On the way over, Simon takes a Valium that's actually a hallucinogenic concoction cooked up by Martha's pharmacology student brother. By the time they arrive, Simon's inhibitions are gone with the wind. Other guests include Uncle Alfie (Peter Vaughn) and an uninvited American mourner (Peter Dinklage). By the end of the movie, one of these individuals will be dead. Though he's worked in the States for several decades, director Frank Oz was born in the UK, and Death at a Funeral feels like the work of a British filmmaker. As drawing room comedies go, it may not rival Arsenic and Old Lace, but it's still funnier than most. If the film has a flaw, it's one misjudged moment of scatological humor, which is sure to induce more cringes than giggles. Fortunately, it's over quickly, and Tudyk's hilarious performance provides ample compensation. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
